Tina Turner spent her final years in great pain, mourning the losses of her two sons before her passing last week, according to reports.
The legendary songstress’s death sparked an outpouring of grief from around the world. Though Turner had been struggling with health issues for years, she remained an icon of music as a whole, rivaled only by those small few true titans of the industry.
As we reported last week, the 83-year-old was apparently well aware of her own mortality. While the (Simply) The Best singer’s death may have seemed sudden – it was not preceded by any information indicating that her passing was imminent – new reports from Radar Online suggest Turner knew her time was coming.
Radar say that the so-dubbed Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll had endeavored to settle all matters relating to her estate over the last few years so as to avoid any family in-fighting over the fortune she would leave behind.
Having been stricken with her aforementioned health problems, it’s said Turner decided to get her final will in order in 2021.
The Brownsville born singer-songwriter reportedly boasted an estate worth some $270 million, and even sold off her music catalog to the BMG record label for $50 million before her death.
Turner is also said to have extensively planned her own funeral years ago. Reportedly, with the singer in the midst of struggling to deal with complications from a kidney transplant, Turner began to make preparations concerning how she would be laid to rest when the time came. What’s more, she was intent on ensuring her funeral would be bigger than Aretha Franklin’s.
Yet though the What’s Love Got to Do With It hitmaker remained composed and defiant until the end, sources indicate that her last few months and years were spent battling varying waves of agony and grief.
Tina’s daughter-in-law Afida spoke candidly after Turner’s death, insisting the singer had shown extraordinary strength.
“She was ill for a long time, but she was extraordinarily strong too,” Afida told the Daily Mail. “She was fighting for her life from 2017 until now. We knew how sick she was, but she was doing so well that this was not expected.”
Afida also hinted at Turner’s grief following the deaths of her two sons, Craig (who passed in 2018), and Ronnie (2022).
“If you lose a child, or a loved one, you are going to cry every morning and every night,” Afida said.
Yet perhaps it’s testament to Tina Turner’s incredible strength that she did her utmost to present a brave face to the public. Radar Online say the music legend spent her final days strolling around the streets of the village she called home, Küsnacht, in Switzerland.
What’s more, Turner is remembered by her neighbors as “modest,” “friendly” and “polite”.
