High school graduate found dead in desert bonfire pile – authorities now label it “malicious”

Authorities have described the case of the 18-year-old high school graduate found dead in a bonfire pile in Arizona as “malicious”, according to reports.

The body of Parker League was found on June 12 in a bonfire pile in Bulldog Canyon, Tonto National Forest, at close to 7am local time.

The teenager was identified by Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office two days after the discovery of the body. Parker had been reported as missing by the Tempe Police Department.

As per sources, Parker was not a native of Arizona and had visited from out of state. The 18-year-old’s family revealed that he’d recently graduated high school in Nebraska and had traveled to Tempe to visit friends.

Indeed, his personal belongings had been left at a home in Tempe – Parker’s last known location – and the investigation into his death is ongoing. At the time of writing, there have been no arrests made, but police presence in the area has increased.

Parker’s parents told how he’d flown out from Nebraska on June 9, before sending a message to his brother, Hunter, the following day. He was due to fly home on June 12 when his body was discovered.

Tragically, Parker’s family were not made aware of the discovery of their son’s body, and so filed a missing person’s report on June 15. The teen’s brother, Hunter, claimed that someone had used Parker’s card “to get food” and also “tried to pay their electric bill with it”.

Hunter, 20, explained: “I got a call from my dad telling me to come home. I asked him ‘why’ about three times and the third time he tried to explain it, he just started breaking down.”

According to The Sun, Parker’s death is being treated by authorities as a homicide, though there is no obvious motive behind the killing and his official cause of death also remains unclear.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, meanwhile, called Parker’s death malicious.

Our thoughts go out to Parker’s family. We can only imagine how devastated they must be.
