Shannen Doherty has been spotted out and about in public for the first time since revealing her devastating health update earlier this year.
The actress was pictured seeking some respite on Italy’s picturesque Amalfi Coast, a tranquil escape amidst her ongoing battle against Stage 4 breast cancer.
In the charming fishing village of Nerano, the 52-year-old actress took in the sunny weather, sharing an al fresco meal with friends at a local eatery.
Sporting a black tank top paired with an elegant orange skirt, the ‘Beverly Hills, 90210‘ alum appeared happy and positive. She smiled and laughed with her friends while holding a drink in one hand and her phone in the other. She completed her casual look with a chic oversized straw hat.
Doherty, who has been candid about her medical journey, recently announced that she underwent surgery to remove a tumor from her head, following a CT scan that revealed brain metastases – a condition wherein cancer cells spread to the brain, per Mayo Clinic.
The ‘Charmed‘ actress has been transparent about her health battles, even taking to Instagram before her surgery to provide a glimpse into her journey. She posted a video documenting her undergoing radiation therapy, as well as another clip prior to having surgery to remove the tumor in her head.
“I am clearly trying to be brave but I am petrified. The fear was overwhelming to me. Scared of all possible bad outcomes, worried about leaving my mom and how that would impact her… This is what cancer can look like,” she captioned the video.
Doherty’s battle with breast cancer began in 2015, and she eventually went into remission in 2017. However, in 2020 the resilient star announced that her cancer had returned.
Reflecting on her journey at the time, she remained positive about the future during an interview on Good Morning America, saying: “Our life doesn’t end the minute we get that diagnosis… We still have some living to do.”
Amidst all of her struggles, Shannen Doherty has proven time and time again that she’s a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the determination to make the most of life’s moments!
