Shannen Doherty gives heartbreaking update in terminal cancer battle – and it confirms what we feared

Shannen Doherty gave an emotional speech when discussing her terminal cancer diagnosis at a recent ’90s Con.

According to reports, Doherty was one of several former co-stars from the hit series Beverly Hills 90210 to take the stage at the weekend. Tori Spelling, Jason Priestley, Brian Austin Green and Jennie Garth were also there, with the group taking questions from a live audience.

The event was particularly emotional for Doherty, who revealed earlier this year in June that her stage four cancer had mestasized to her brain.

Doherty has done her utmost to document her run-in with cancer – posting candid videos to her Instagram and providing regular updates intended to inform and inspire and her followers.

As per reports, Doherty was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, but went into remission two years later after undergoing treatment.

Tragically, the actress appeared on Good Morning America in 2020 to let the world know her cancer had not only returned, but that it was at stage four.

“It’s going to come out in a matter of days or a week that I’m stage four,” she said. “So my cancer came back and that’s why I’m here.”

Needless to say, it’s been a tough journey for the actress since then, but she remains a beloved figure.

This past weekend, she turned out for a panel hosted by PEOPLE Senior Editor Breanne L. Heldman, giving Doherty and her fellow cast members the chance to talk about their old show and the incredible success it had.

Naturally, the subject of Doherty’s fight with cancer remains of interest to her fans, and so it was that the 52-year-old offered an update that stressed the gravity of her situation.

“I have a fight for my life, that I deal with every day,” she said.

“I think I am really great.”

Doherty was also able to joke about her recent divorce, telling the crowd: “My other profession is getting engaged, married and divorced, and I’m doing that very well.”

We’re all praying for Doherty’s health and happiness. If you like reading about her, check out her tear-jerking reaction to getting a standing ovation from the crowd on Sunday.
