The world can be a terribly cruel place, one where bad things happen to good people and injustices take place in lots of different places every day.
The family of a 17-year-old girl who battled cancer twice during the course of her short life are mourning her passing after she was killed in a Kansas car crash that claimed the lives of two additional passengers.
According to reports, Aria Mia Gonzalez was identified by Kansas City Police as one of the women present in a vehicle involved in a collision on October 1.
Authorities say that Aria was traveling with her friends, Ashanti Hill and Aniyah Lewis, both 19. Hill was said to have been in the driver’s seat when she lost control of the vehicle and collided with a tree.
Tragically, the crash occurred just four years after Aria had been diagnosed with cancer for the first time. Then 14 years old, she was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a type of bone or soft tissue cancer which particularly affects children and young adults.
According to reports, Aria went into remission and eventually fell pregnant with a little girl. During her pregnancy, however, she discovered that her cancer had returned.
A GoFundMe page established in Aria’s memory by her cousin, Ariella Camaraza, has thus far managed to raise $1,670 of its $5,000 target.
On the page, Ariella left a tribute for her cousin, writing: “She gave birth to her daughter and had to go through the challenges of being a young mom and battling cancer again.”
Ariella also stated the fundraiser’s aim of providing “financial assistance to cover memorial expenses and alleviate the immediate financial burdens faced by the family.”
The GoFundMe continues: “In the wake of this devastating loss, we are coming together to support Mia’s mother Ada Camaraza during this incredibly challenging time.
“She leaves behind a young child Se’vyn Sayori Gonzalez. We aim to provide financial assistance to cover memorial expenses and alleviate the immediate financial burdens faced by the family.”
We can only imagine the pain felt by the families of those who lost their lives in this accident. Rest in peace…
