Kevin Hart, 44, reveals moment “he almost died” – “this is it”

It’s not often Kevin Hart gets mentioned in the same breath as anything not at least partially related to comedy, but the much-loved comedian recently opened up on a particularly harrowing experience he endured on an airplane.

Now, if you’re anything like me, chances are you’ll need absolutely zero motivation when it comes to being wary of planes, but if I’ve had to hear Hart’s story – less than two weeks before I’m due to fly, I might add – then you can too.

Given that the life of the average Hollywood superstar must surely involve a lot of flying, we can safely assume that Kevin Hart clocks up his fair share of air miles annually.

We must stress at this point that even when you fly as often Hart does, the chances of something going seriously wrong while you’re in the air are very, very small.

Yet airplanes are designed and built by humans, and therefore subject to human error. What’s more, other factors including the weather and, well, rotten luck, can come into play and affect any plane’s ability to stay in the sky.

Speaking ahead of the release of his new film Lift – the premise of which sees a gang of criminals attempt to steal $500 million in gold from a vault on a plane that is 40,000 feet in the air – Hart recalled a time wherein he feared for his own life.

The comedian and actor told the Graham Norton Show: “I almost died.

“We were landing and as we did the front wheel broke, and I just saw flames coming out of the front of the plane.

“It was one of those moments when I thought, ‘This is it’, and I realised that if it happens I was cool with where I was in life. I didn’t panic.”

Hart insisted that his latest project will see him in the role of an “action star”.

“In this film I am an action star, you can probably tell by looking at my arms!” he explained.

“We wanted a film that the world could gravitate towards.

“It’s my first leading man role where I am serious. It’s a proper thriller and for the first time I’m not responsible for the jokes.”
