Woman dumps boyfriend of seven years, then he gifts her shocking present

Breaking up a relationship, let alone one that’s gone on for seven years, is undoubtedly a challenging and emotional experience.

For one woman named Rachel, the end brought an unexpected and somewhat perplexing gift from her ex-boyfriend.

Rachel took to TikTok to share the surprising present and her feelings about the breakup… Keep reading to find out what happened.

Rachel – who goes by the handle @self_daily_love on TikTok – revealed on the social media app that she had been unhappy and often felt insecure during her seven-year relationship with her ex-boyfriend, Kev.

Reflecting on the situation, she acknowledged that she did not set clear boundaries and expressed that the relationship might not have lasted more than six months if she had loved herself more.

The odd gift

Following the breakup, Rachel was taken aback when her ex-boyfriend gifted her a carefully wrapped present, which turned out to be a self-help book titled “Fall in Love with Yourself” by Angel Gaudia. Wrapped in red and pink paper adorned with hearts, the book came with a handwritten note that read: “I know you don’t love me anymore, love yourself now.”

Unboxing the unexpected gift, Rachel shared her surprise on TikTok, turning the unassuming present into an internet sensation with over 12 million views and over 6,000 comments.

TikTok reactions

Many TikTok users were intrigued by the unexpected nature of the breakup and praised the ex-boyfriend for his thoughtfulness and emotional intelligence.

They questioned the reason behind the split, with some suggesting that Rachel should consider getting back together with him, even referring to him as a potential soulmate.

“I dumped him after seven years and he gave me this gift,” she captioned the video.

After commenting that her relationship with Kev just “didn’t work out,” Rachel was forced to respond to internet users who urged her to reconcile with him, telling them it was “too late”.

“Get your boy back,” someone wrote, while another said: “That’s your soulmate!”

A further user added: “Are you sure you don’t love him? I’d cry if my ex did that for me.”

Though, not everyone was as optimistic about the gift. While some TikTok users saw the gift as a genuine and thoughtful gesture, others were pretty skeptical of the self-help book, especially consider Rachel had claimed the relationship made her deeply unhappy.

“This is a way of manipulating her to think she doesn’t love herself or doesn’t know her own worth and like he has the power to ‘teach’ her,” someone wrote.

Another added: “It’s a trick – don’t fall for it,” while a further user chimed in with: “Can’t tell if it’s manipulative or genuine.”

“They always do what you were asking for the whole time after it’s too late,” another comment read.

One person did stick up for Kev, writing: “Pretty sure he’s telling her to go love herself and learn what she wants to do by exploring and living life to the fullest. It’s not always manipulation.”

Clearly, the unexpected breakup gift sparked mixed reactions on TikTok – most viewers were torn between interpreting it as a heartfelt gesture or a potentially manipulative move.
