On Friday, AT&T disclosed hackers stole records of calls and texts messages from “nearly all” customers, both cellular and landline, during a six-month period between May 2022 and October 2022.
The data breach also included records from January 2, 2023, which only impacted a “very small number of customers.”
In a statement, the telecom giant revealed it learned of the illegal download in April and has been working with law enforcement “in its efforts to arrest those involved in the incident.”
To their knowledge at least one person has been “apprehended.”
AT&T said while the content of the calls and text messages were not revealed nor was any personal information, the hacked data identifies numbers an AT&T customer interacted with between May 1, 2022 and October 31, 2022.
“At this time, we do not believe that the data is publicly available,” AT&T said in a statement.
AT&T said it would notify those customers who were affected by the data breach by text, email, or U.S. mail. Customers could also log into their account for more information.
According to TechCrunch, the company will notify approximately 110 million customers of the breach.
This is the second data breach AT&T has alerted its customers to this year.
