The music world is completely shaken since it was announced that Liam Payne, the former One Direction member, had fallen to his death from the third floor of a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

According to reports, police were on their way to the CasaSur Palermo hotel, responding to calls “of an aggressive man who may have been under the effects of drugs and alcohol.”

When they arrived at the hotel, they were told a loud sound had been heard in an interior courtyard, and soon after, they discovered Payne’s body.

Following his death, shocked fans are visiting his social media and finding solace in pouring out their grief with other devotees of One Direction, one of the best-selling boy bands of all time.

On his Instagram page, there were several older posts promoting his single “Teardrops,” which was released in March 2024. It was his first single since “Sunshine” in 2021 and the last song he recorded before his death on October 16.

“I just heard Liam died from a fall from a hotel balcony in Argentina. A lot of Directioners are in Teardrops right now. RIP Liam,” writes one fan in the comments section of Payne’s March 1 post that shares a clip of the song.

“I’m in tears right now,” shares a second.

Another adds, “[Please] Liam!!! Please wake uppppp.”

But the one post that’s getting the most attention is the last shared by Payne on May 29, 2024.

The image shows the five members of One Direction, including Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malick, standing alongside Morgan Spurlock, who directed and produced One Direction: This Is Us. The 2013 documentarychronicles the band’s journey from their 2010 appearance on the X-Factor to superstardom.

Spurlock, the star and director of the Oscar nominated documentary Super Size Me (2004), died at 53 from complications of cancer on May 23, 2024.

Payne captioned the image: “Rest in peace Morgan Spurlock it was a pleasure working with you.”

Fans flooded the comments section, expressing their sadness over losing the singer whose music carried them through their younger years.

“This photo was originally posted in memory of Morgan, by Liam, and now it has become a memorial to Liam and 1D…Part of my youth is over…” shares one netizen.

A second writes, “I’m still in shock, still in denial. It hurts more than I thought it would. Rest in peace. You’ll never know how much you meant to so many of us.”

“No Liam, not you, come back to us,” laments a third.

Quoting a line from the One Direction song “Spaces,” another comments, “Who’s gonna be the first to say goodbye?”

Meanwhile, other fans pointed out that his last post was a throwback photo of the band, that went on a hiatus in 2016 after releasing their fifth album in 2015.

“It hurts even more to see that your last post on Insta is a complete photo of One Direction. Rest in peace, daddy Payno,” offers one fan.

“And…his last post was a picture of the five of them together,” writes a second, who emphasizes their grief with a broken heart emoji.

Another adds, “his very last post being a picture of One Direction… I’m sick.”

Rest in peace, Liam Payne.
