Kim Kardashian nearly went viral for all the wrong reasons Monday night (5 May), after a pre-Met Gala mishap had her shooting daggers at a security guard.
Kardashian’s outfit turned heads: a long black leather bodycon dress and oversized fedora designed by Chrome Hearts, accessorised with layers of diamond necklaces and earrings.
The look paid homage to the zoot suits worn by Black men in the 1930s and 1940s – fitting for this year’s Met Gala theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, which spotlighted the influence of Black fashion and identity, particularly in menswear.
The reality star was caught on camera attempting a slow-motion, movie-style strut with daughter North West en route to the fashion event – until a rogue step from a security guard nearly took her down.
His foot landed on her dress, prompting Kardashian to whirl around, say something sharp, and throw up a hand in classic diva frustration.
She quickly recovered, tossing her hair with signature flair before continuing towards the car.
The moment was quickly uploaded to TikTok, where users wasted no time chiming in. “It’s the hair flick for me,” one wrote.
“Like boy, don’t mess this up for me.” Another added, “Someone almost made her fall. She looks amazing!”
Some viewers speculated that North, 11, didn’t look thrilled to be there based on her expression, though she had posted TikToks with her mum earlier in the evening, dressed in a sleek look of her own. (She didn’t attend the Met Gala itself, though—guests must be 18 and over.)
The slight stumble may have shaken the moment – but Kim’s look still delivered.
