TikTok has never been short on bizarre or bold trends, but the latest one raising eyebrows is something called hamstering… and yes, it’s exactly as odd as it sounds.
Building on the popularity of car-date setups, hamstering takes things to a new (and slightly absurd) level. The act involves one partner positioned on top of a car, naked from the waist down and protruding through the sunroof, while the other partner remains inside the vehicle and performs oral sex.
Why hamstering? The name is a reference to how hamsters drink water, sticking their faces up to a metal spout, mirroring the awkward angle of this car-based encounter.
While it might sound like something out of a comedy sketch, the viral trend has gained enough traction on social media to spark curiosity, jokes, and even a few tentative attempts.
Sex columnist and author Zachary Zane told Mashable he’d never encountered the position until it surfaced online. “But I bet you a few very adventurous people are now trying it out and seeing if it’s feasible,” he added.
Feasibility, it turns out, is the sticking point. According to Zane, success largely depends on factors like body size, flexibility, and core strength, especially for the person on the roof. And for the person inside the car? It’s not exactly ergonomic bliss.

Sex educators and podcast hosts Amy Baldwin and April Lampert agree the setup is likely uncomfortable for both parties. “The giver will likely have to contort their body and neck in a way that may be really uncomfortable and unsustainable,” they said, noting that breaks might be necessary just to get through it.
In other words, this is probably less about pleasure and more about the story, a sort of sexual dare gone viral. As Zane put it: “These people aren’t likely trying it because it’s pleasurable… It’s more to say that they’ve done it.”
Still, Baldwin and Lampert say that if both partners are in on the joke, it could be a playful way to inject some novelty into their sex life.
Because at the end of the day, sex is meant to be fun, even if that fun occasionally involves sunroofs, questionable logistics, and a lot of balance.
And if you do decide to give it a try? Zane has one non-negotiable rule: “For the love of God, make sure the car is in park.”
