Huge update after ‘disgusting’ live TV footage caught grown man’s act to child during US Open

Polish tennis player Kamil Majchrzak has been praised worldwide after stepping in to right a wrong at the US Open, where a young fan was left in tears when an adult attendee snatched away a gift meant for him.

The 29-year-old stunned the tournament on Thursday (August 28) by toppling ninth seed Karen Khachanov in a dramatic five-set clash on Court 11, coming back from two sets down to win 2-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-5, 7-6(5).

After sealing the victory, Majchrzak headed to the stands to sign autographs and hand out memorabilia to fans. In viral footage from the match, he was seen removing his Asics cap and offering it to a boy in the crowd. But before the child could keep the souvenir, an older man reached in, snatched the hat, and refused to return it, despite the boy’s protests.

The moment sparked outrage across social media, where viewers labeled the man a “bully” and “disgusting” for taking away a gift from a child. “Shame on this guy,” one fan wrote on X. Another added: “Maturity doesn’t come with age, it comes with actions.”

While the boy left empty-handed, Majchrzak quickly stepped in to make things right. The former World No. 75 posted on Instagram the following day, saying he hadn’t realized during the moment that the cap didn’t reach its intended recipient.

“After the match I didn’t get to record that my cap didn’t get to the boy,” Majchrzak explained. “Thanks to @asicstennis I’ve got enough caps so I’m prepared for that.” He then shared photos of the child and asked fans to help track him down: “Hey Guys, could you help me find the Kid from my match @usopen @eurosportpl. If it’s you (or your parents see this), please send me a DM.”

The appeal worked almost instantly. Just hours later, Majchrzak returned with good news. “I am impressed by the power of the Internet. We got it! All good now,” he wrote, adding a salute and thumbs-up emoji.

Later, fans were treated to footage of the pair finally meeting up, with the young boy getting to shake Majchrzak’s hand and even receiving a replacement Asics cap.

Fans were quick to applaud the gesture, calling Majchrzak a “class act” and a “legend” for going out of his way to make sure the boy received a replacement. One person summed it up: “What a class gesture, absolute brilliance. You need people like this in the world.”
