The manhunt for the shooter that killed Charlie Kirk might be over. On Friday morning, during an appearance on Fox & Friends, President Donald Trump said the suspect in the Charlie Kirk killing is in custody.
The manhunt for the killer of Kirk, the political activist who was shot dead during an event at Utah Valley University, may well have been apprehended. President Donald Trump released this statement in the immediate wake of the shooting:
“To my great fellow Americans, I am filled with grief and anger at the heinous assassination of Charlie Kirk on a college campus in Utah. Charlie inspired millions, and tonight, all who knew him and loved him are united in shock and horror,” Trump said.
“Charlie was a patriot who devoted his life to the cause of open debate and the country that he loved so much, the United States of America. He fought for liberty, democracy, justice, and the American people. He’s a martyr for truth and freedom, and there’s never been anyone who was so respected by youth.”
“Charlie was also a man of deep, deep faith, and we take comfort in the knowledge that he is now at peace with God in heaven. Our prayers are with his wife, Erika, their two young beloved children, and his entire family, who he loved more than anything in the world. We ask God to watch over them in this terrible hour of heartache and pain.”
Charlie Kirk suspect in custody, Donald Trump says
The President of the United States added that they would “find each and everyone” who has been involved, “including the organizations that fund it and support it.”
“Today, because of this heinous act, Charlie’s voice has become bigger and grander than ever before—and it’s not even close,” Trump concluded.
“May God bless his memory. May God watch over his family. And may God bless the United States of America. Thank you. “
On Thursday the FBI released pictures of the possible shooter alongside a video showing a person climbing off a roof and fleeing the scene. The FBI issued a $100,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of the gunman who shot Kirk. A weapon had been found close to the scene as well.
Now, the manhunt might be over. While appearing on Fox & Friends on Friday morning, Trump said he “thinks with a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody.”
“They drove into the police headquarters”
The POTUS added “someone very close” to the suspect turned him in.” The “person” was a “person of faith, a minister.” Further, he said “namely his father,” got involved and said “we’ve got to go in.”
“They drove into the police headquarters, and he’s there now,” Trump said on Fox and Friends.
While the president said he may need to be corrected, he said he talked “based on what I’m hearing”.
This is a developing story.
