47-year-old passenger Jessica Collins is the latest traveller to go missing while on a cruise ship. During its scheduled stop on the Caribbean island of Bonaire earlier this month, she departed the ship, but never came back. Now, Carnival Cruise, the cruise operator, reveals that Collins left a haunting final message.
Four days into the Carnival Cruise, 47-year-old Jessica Collins packed most of her things and left the cruise ship as it reached its scheduled stop on the island of Bonaire in the Caribbean. The incident happened earlier this month, and a frantic search is underway.
On September 22, Carnival Cruises issued a statement to People Magazine regarding the incident. According to the cruise line, Jessica shared a haunting message when crew members attempted to locate her.
“She debarked with all her belongings in her backpack and left a cash gratuity for the stateroom attendant with a thank you note,” Carnival Cruise told People in a statement. “The guest subsequently texted a member of our Care Team who had been trying to reach her saying she was safe and did not want to be found or contacted again.”

The spokesperson added, “While we are cooperating with local authorities this guest appears to have taken deliberate action to be alone and on her own.”
According to surveillance photos, Jessica Collins was carrying a gray backpack when she exited the ship. She wore shorts and a short-sleeved button-down shirt. Her case has sparked interest worldwide, not least because of Netflix’s documentary on Amy Bradley, who went missing from a cruise ship in 1998 and was never seen again.
In a press release, the government of Bonaire said, “Local authorities are working with the Public Entity of Bonaire, the Port Authority, Tourism Corporation Bonaire, Carnival Cruise Line Security, the ship’s security chief, and other partners. They are also in direct contact with Carnival Corporation and the U.S. authorities.”
Bonaire authorities said anyone with information about Collins can report it through an anonymous tip line at 9310 or by contacting local police at 715 8000.
