That Donald Trump isn’t a big fan of Joe Biden is an understatement. The two went up against each other in the 2020 election, but last summer, Biden had to withdraw from the presidential race due to health issues.
Reports about him using an autopen to sign documents when he was still president spread. And now, Donald Trump has mocked the former president by replacing Biden’s portrait with something completely else.
Donald Trump and Joe Biden were to go head-to-head for the second time last summer as they became their party’s candidates for the presidency.
Joe Biden’s decline in health left him no choice but to withdraw from the race, with Kamala Harris becoming the Democratic presidential candidate instead.
Biden’s health became a significant topic of discussion during the presidential campaign, and Trump emphasized it as part of his agenda to garner votes. One of the things the former real estate mogul became somewhat obsessed with was the use of an autopen.
CNN reported that Biden had used an autopen to sign documents, and in June, months after Donald took office for a second time, he ordered an investigation into Biden’s autopen use.
Joe Biden’s autopen
“The vast majority of Biden’s executive actions were signed using a mechanical signature pen, often called an autopen, as opposed to Biden’s own hand. This was especially true of actions taken during the second half of his Presidency, when his cognitive decline had apparently become even more clear to those working most closely with him,” Trump said in a memorandum.
At the time, Joe Biden answered and dismissed Trump’s claims.
“Let me be clear: I made the decisions during my presidency. I made the decisions about the pardons, executive orders, legislation, and proclamations. Any suggestion that I didn’t is ridiculous and false.”
Several presidents before Biden have used autopen. And in fact, it’s OK to do so.
A 2005 guidance from the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel states, “The President need not personally perform the physical act of affixing his signature to a bill he approves and decides to sign in order for the bill to become law. Rather, the President may sign a bill … by directing a subordinate to affix the President’s signature to such a bill, for example by autopen.”
Even so, Donald Trump has called for a review of “the policy documents for which the autopen was used, including clemency grants, Executive Orders, Presidential memoranda, or other Presidential policy decisions.”
Donald Trump replaces Joe Biden presidential portrait with picture autopen
Although it was some time ago, Biden’s use of an autopen appears to still be haunting Trump. To the extent that it has taken place at a prominent location inside the White House grounds. President Trump has just introduced what’s called a “Presidential Walk of Fame” alongside the prominent walkway outside of the West Wing.
“The Presidential Walk of Fame has arrived on the West Wing Colonnade,” special assistant to the president and communications adviser Margo Martin wrote on X on Wednesday, together with a video in which black-and-white portraits. However, when the camera panned to Biden, it wasn’t a photo of him – but of an autopen.
CNN reported that a spokesperson for Joe Biden declined to comment on it. Weeks ago, Trump gave a first hint of putting the autopen in the frame instead of a picture of the former president.
Trump teased the autopen images during an.
“We’ll put up a picture of the autopen,” he said in an interview with The Daily Caller.
