The quiet streets of Barra da Tijuca in Rio de Janeiro were shaken last Friday when authorities discovered the bodies of 33-year-old model and influencer Lidiane Aline Lorenço and her 15-year-old daughter, Miana Sophya Santos, inside their apartment.
The heartbreaking discovery came after neighbors reported a strange, overpowering odor seeping from the property.
Firefighters arrived on the scene, and what they found stunned the community: the mother and daughter were deceased, found in separate rooms — Miana in the living room, and Lorenço in a bedroom. According to G1, no signs of violence were present in the apartment or on the bodies.
“A forensic examination was conducted at the scene and found no evidence of assault,” the Civil Police said, according to People.
“The bodies were autopsied, but it has not yet been possible to determine the cause of death. Further tests will be performed.”

The mother-daughter pair hadn’t been seen for about five days before the discovery, Veja Rio reports. Lorenço, originally from Santa Cecília in the southern state of Santa Catarina, had moved to Rio more than five years ago. Her teenage daughter had recently joined her in the city.
Lorenço, who had over 54,000 followers on Instagram, balanced her career as a model and influencer with her studies in medicine at a private university in Rio. Her posts often highlighted her life juggling school, work, and motherhood — now, her social media is flooded with messages from fans mourning her sudden loss.
Her family released a heartfelt statement, urging respect during this time of grief and denouncing false rumors:
“The memory of Lidiane and her daughter must be preserved. It is unacceptable that, in the midst of such pain, malicious rumors and unfounded speculations attempt to tarnish her image. We ask the press and the public to wait for official investigations and avoid spreading unconfirmed information that only adds to the suffering of everyone who loved Lidiane and Miana Sophia.”
Shared serious health concerns
Authorities continue to investigate, running toxicology and laboratory tests to determine the cause of death. The results could take weeks, leaving the case shrouded in uncertainty and mystery.
Neighbors recall Lorenço and Miana as private and reserved. According to family lawyer José Orlando Senna, they had shared serious health concerns — both mother and daughter suffered from thrombophilia, a condition affecting blood clotting that can lead to serious complications.
Lorenço and Miana were laid to rest on Sunday, October 12, in Santa Cecília, leaving family, friends, and fans around the world heartbroken.
