Angelina Jolie has found herself at the center of an unexpected online debate, all because of a handwritten note that some people say is perfectly readable while others struggle to figure out what it says.
The discussion revolves around a thank-you message the Hollywood star left for the staff at a luxury resort. While many people have no trouble making out the words, others have taken to social media to share their confusion.
And judging by the reactions, people are far from agreeing on whether the message is difficult to decipher.
For those having trouble reading the note, one word in particular seems to be causing the most confusion.
Several users on X have tried to work out what Jolie wrote, with one person offering their interpretation of the message.
“All I got was ‘thank you for a … stay at your beauty ‘woods’? The ‘Maria’ and had a lovely time here,’” they said according to Tyla.
Another user suggested a slightly different reading, writing: “Thank you for a restful stay at your beautiful (?). The ‘Maria’ all had a wonderful time here.”

Others were equally puzzled by one part of the note. “What the hell is the word after ‘beautiful’?” one person asked.
Someone else compared the actress’s penmanship to that of a medical professional, commenting: “Her calligraphy is very doctor-like.”
However, some social media users argued that the note was straightforward to read. One X user pushed back against the confusion, writing: “I know there’s a literacy crisis and all, but are y’all actually struggling with this? ‘Thank you for a restful stay at your beautiful resort. The ‘Marias’ all had a lovely time here. With love, Angelina Jolie’. Is that not it? Am I crazy?”
Another was equally baffled by the reaction, asking: “Can people not read cursive anymore wtf?!”
Others were even more dismissive of the debate.
“That isn’t hard to read. It’s just cursive writing. Good grief, people,” one user remarked.
Another questioned why anyone needed help understanding the message, writing: “Decipher? It looks easy to understand.”
One more person summed up their position simply: “I can read every word!”
The note dates back to Angelina Jolie’s ‘Maria’ movie
Although the discussion has gained fresh attention this week, the handwritten message isn’t new. The note reportedly first surfaced in October 2023, when Jolie was in Greece filming the movie Maria.
According to Greek City Times, the actress stayed at the Aldemar Olympian Village luxury resort while working on the film, in which she portrays legendary opera singer Maria Callas.
The resort subsequently shared Jolie’s thank-you note on its Facebook account, expressing its appreciation for hosting the Hollywood star.
“We had the pleasure of receiving a thank-you letter from the extraordinary Angelina Jolie. Thank you again all for #angelinajoliewashere.”
The message itself was intended as a warm acknowledgment of the hospitality Jolie and the film’s cast received during their stay.
According to them, the note read: “Thank you for a restful stay at your beautiful resort. The ‘Maria’ cast had a lovely time here!”
