Dog trapped in river for days – then men free it in emotional rescue

As a dog owner, the thought of my pup being lost, afraid, cold or scared is too much to bear. I imagine all of you out there with four-legged friends feel much the same way.

There’s something about a dog’s dependancy on humans that makes it all the more gut-wrenching to see them in discomfort. Of course, the flip side to that is the tear-jerking elation of seeing them rescued when they’re in trouble.

Perhaps that’s why one video is quickly going viral on the net – one that depicts a man saving a dog that has been trapped for days on the Kentucky River…

When a dog got herself stuck in a muddy river bank in Ulysses, Kentucky, it was only a matter of time before the situation became dire.

13-year-old Ginger, a golden retriever, had been missing from her home for five-days, and her family was desperate to find her. Fortunately for them, the brother of the dog’s owner found Ginger stuck in serious trouble, and, along with a group of others, jumped into a rescue effort to save her life.

Darrell Perkins heard his sister’s dog howling down by the river, and so immediately called dog warden Johnny Rickman.

Rickman soon arrived on scene with his trusty harness; a piece of equipment that would be crucial in freeing Ginger from the river bank.

Ginger couldn’t walk up the hill, and it was clear that she could easily have drowned.

But, thanks to the incredible efforts of the humans who found her, she’s now recovering at a local animal hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
