Food influencer Michael Duarte was shot and killed by police in Texas after he threatened to kill people, per the Police Department. Now, his wife speaks out on the unimaginable loss.

Food influencer Michael Duarte, known under the username “FoodWithBearHands,” with over two million followers across his social media platforms, was shot and killed by police on November 8.

He was killed during a disturbance call and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. TMZ reported that police responded to a 911 call in Castroville, Texas, where a “male subject with a knife acting erratically.” A deputy shot two rounds, striking Duarte.

“After multiple verbal commands were given for Duarte to get on the ground by the deputy, Duarte charged toward the deputy while yelling, ‘I’m going to kill you.'” He was given medical aid at the scene and transported to University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, where he was pronounced dead.

A GoFundMe page was established shortly after that, aiming to support Duarte’s family after the “horrible accident.”

“This heartbreak came without warning, leaving Jessica to incur the expense of bringing him back home to California and covering funeral expenses,” it read.

Michael Duarte grew up in California in the small city of Calipatria. Per his Instagram, he learned to cook while working at a Mexican restaurant owned by his uncle.

Now, after Duarte’s death, his wife Jessica shares some devastating words about her late husband. On her husband’s Instagram page, Jessica posted a tribute, stating that she struggles to know what to do.

“I feel so touched and proud to know so many people that he has inspired over his time here on earth. I plan to keep his legacy going not only for him but his family,” she wrote.

“He gave everyone every bit of him so it’s my turn to give it back. I’m not quite sure what that looks like yet but hopefully he will lead me on that path,” she continued, thanking people who have reached out to her, and said “the outpouring love has really given [her] strength.”

“I can feel him moving mountains, a big thank you to my tribe,” Jessica added.
