Kelly Clarkson has had a tough time recently when her ex-husband and the father of her two children, Brandon Blackstock, passed away.

The Kelly Clarkson Show is incredibly popular, where America’s beloved singer Kelly Clarkson does it all; interviews guests, sings, and plays entertaining games. Now, the singer got deep and personal during a ‘Q&A’ session with fans.
Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock married in 2013 and subsequently divorced in 2022. During their marriage, they have two children together; son Remington and daughter River.
Blackstock sadly passed away on August 7, 2025, after he bravely battled cancer for more than three years.’ He was only 48 years old at the time of his death.
During the Q&A segment, a fan wrote in asking Kelly Clarkson what something she did every day to bring her joy. The question read, “What is the one thing you do every day that brings you joy?”
She replied, “Snuggle. My kids, they’re nine and 11. Kind of that special little fun stage where they can wipe their own behinds, but they’re still small enough to, like, love cuddling and love snuggles.”
In a candid admission following her initial response, she said, “There’s been a lot for our family recently, and so I have allowed my kids to sleep with me quite a bit. It’s my two dogs, my two kids and me. It’s a lot.”
She added that it was a special time she shared with her children, saying, “The conversations you have during that time are pretty cute. So that’s probably my favorite time of day.”
Blackstock’s death was a heartbreaking event for many. His death was announced with a statement that said, “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family.
It went on, “We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
The obituary for Blackstock read that he had been a ‘loving partner’ before his death.
Blackstock had been married to Melissa Ashworth in 1999 and divorced in 2012. After that he married Kelly Clarkson in 2013.
Clarkson had previously spoken about how she had been handling her divorce, she spoke about it on at the Angie Martinez IRL.
“I literally ask my kids every night when we’re snuggling up in the bed, ‘Are you happy? And if you’re not, what could make you happier?'” she said in the 2023 interview.
Clarkson added how she put her own feelings aside to hear them out, she said, “Especially the past two years… it kills me [but] I want them to be honest so I don’t ever say, ‘Oh God, don’t tell me that.’
“But a lot of times it would be like, ‘I’m just really sad. I wish Mommy and Daddy were in the same house.’ They’re really honest about it. I’m raising that kind of individual,” she went on to say.
