When a 22-year-old woman married her 60-year-old high school teacher, people criticized the union. Now she is responding to all those speaking against them.

22-year-old Minea Pagni, who is an influencer, decided to share her love story. Her amor in the story was referred to as ‘Massimo’ and as she posted on Instagram about the unfolding of their love, people were shocked and called her a ‘gold digger.’
Pagni spoke to the New York Post and responded to those allegations, saying, “Reducing a woman’s choices to money is one of the oldest and most unfair stereotypes. I have my own goals, my own work, and my own independence. I married him for who he is — his mind, his values, and the way he loves.”
The pair initially met when Pagni was only 17 years old, and ‘Massimo’ was her philosophy teacher. The romance, however, they maintain, began years later, when she turned 21, and they met again in a bookstore, where she finally confided in him about her crush on him.
About a year later, she married him. In a series of posts, the medical student and influencer said that she decided to share her story to reduce the stigma around big age-gap relationships. She wanted to work against the ‘prejudice.’
She revealed her relationship in November 2025, saying, “Many years ago, in the school of my small hometown, something happened, something that happens to many students.
“I found myself fascinated by a teacher: a man whose age didn’t match the brilliance of his mind; curious, passionate, alive. A teacher who knew how to light a spark inside people,” she continued.
“With him, I discovered the desire to learn, to grow, to become someone. And alongside all of that, a small crush bloomed. Five years later, after giving him her phone number in a bookstore but hearing nothing, she began attending his public lectures ‘out of nostalgia, curiosity, or maybe hope’. Eventually, the young influencer summoned the courage to ask him out for a coffee, and the rest is history.”
She also talked more about her relationship saying, “Today, a year later, we still look at each other with surprise – astonished by how deeply we connect, despite the age gap, despite our very different lives.”
The couple has a 38-year age gap between them, and this has made some people uncomfortable. One Instagram user commented, “he looks like he could be ur dad”
Another wrote on the influencer’s page, “As a teacher: My students will ALWAYS be children to me no matter how long I haven’t seen them! I have had relationships with an age gap and I know why YOU think it’s not a problem or an issue – but HE should have an issue with it, unless there’s a part of him not fully developed (making it something that should make an issue for you).”
Pagni, however, remains unfazed and said, “I knew not everyone would understand, but I wasn’t fully prepared for how intense some reactions could be.
“Still, I’ve learned that criticism often says more about society’s fears than about our love,” she continued.
