A forensic expert is drawing attention to a “strange” moment people may have missed in the videos showing the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti on January 24.
Last than a month after the death of Renee Nicole Good, the 37-year-old mother killed in Minneapolis on January 7, Immigration and Customs Enforcement find themselves at the center of controversy once again.
Pretti, an ICU nurse who regularly helped U.S. veterans, lost his life in Minneapolis this past Saturday, being pepper sprayed, restrained, and eventually shot multiple times by ICE agents.
As was the case in the aftermath of the Renee Good shooting, the Department of Homeland Security immediately claimed Pretti had “violently resisted” officers, while also revealing that he had been carrying a 9mm handgun.
What they didn’t say is that Pretti had a permit to conceal carry the firearm, not to mention the fact that it was holstered when his interaction with the agents in question began. Shocking video footage appears to have since proven that Pretti’s gun was taken from his person by an agent before he was shot to death.
Despite the claims made by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, numerous video angles, eyewitness accounts, and statements from Pretti’s family have strongly countered the idea that he was an active threat to ICE agents.

Again, video footage showed that Pretti, a U.S. citizen and ICU nurse, held a phone in his hand, not a gun, and was pepper-sprayed, restrained, and disarmed before being shot, perhaps more than 10 times.
Given the controversial nature of this killing, at a time when tensions in Minnesota are dangerously taught, it should come as no surprise that people online have been clamouring to watch the different angles of the incident to better draw their conclusions.
Clinical and forensic psychologist Dr. JP Garrison has watched the shooting, and pointed out a “strange” moment that many might have missed.
In his analysis, Dr. Garrison zoned in on the actions of an officer wearing a gray jacket. It was he who removed Pretti’s gun before the 37-year-old nurse was shot dead, with Dr. Garrison noting that the officer then “turned around and ran in the other direction”.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Dr. Garrison said: “What’s strange is the behavior of the man who pulled the gun out. When he took the firearm, as far as I can tell, because we couldn’t hear it, he didn’t announce to everybody else that he had the firearm, that the man had been disarmed.
“It would be a really bad idea to turn your back on someone if you believe that they are armed and dangerous still. So, this I find peculiar.”
He concluded: “His reaction to this, the fact that he decided to run from this situation without announcing that he had the gun, that the man had been disarmed, that Alex Pretti was no longer armed, I find strange.”
Amid a firestorm of backlash, President Donald Trump was forced to speak on the horrific incident, revealing that his administration is “reviewing everything”.
“I don’t like any shooting,” Trump said. “I don’t like it. But I don’t like it when somebody goes into a protest and he’s got a very powerful, fully loaded gun with two magazines loaded up with bullets also. That doesn’t play good either.”
Yesterday, Trump announced that he had sent Tom Homas to Minnesota to investigate Pretti’s death. Describing Homan as “tough but fair”, Trump said that a “major investigation” was underway.
