Pop star Britney Spears was reportedly arrested in California on Wednesday for driving under the influence.
The 44-year-old singer and mother of two was pulled over by California Highway Patrol officers in Ventura County around 9:28 p.m. local time.
She was reportedly handcuffed and taken into custody, booked at 3:02 a.m., and released about three hours later, according to TMZ.
Spears, famous for hits like “…Baby One More Time” and “Oops!… I Did It Again,” has faced years of intense public scrutiny.
She spent more than a decade under a conservatorship controlled by her father, Jamie Spears, and others, which governed her personal and financial life. Spears later described the arrangement as “abusive” and fought to have it terminated.
The singer’s arrest comes shortly after a judge granted a permanent restraining order against a 51-year-old Louisiana man, identified in court documents as Donald, who she claims has been harassing her since 2013.
He allegedly appeared at her Los Angeles homes and posted multiple disturbing messages on social media.
Spears’ representatives and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office have not yet commented on the incident.
