The internet is buzzing with a new theory that Barack Obama might be running for president again. A video posted online has fans reading between the lines and speculating about the former president’s next move.
Barack Obama has the internet doing what it does best: overanalyzing absolutely everything. A short, somewhat cryptic video posted by the Obama Foundation on Sunday has sparked speculation that the former president could somehow be eyeing a return to the White House. The clip was shared with a simple caption, an eyes emoji, and the words: “Any guesses, fam?,” which, naturally, sent people spiraling.
In the video, Obama is seen receiving a stream of notifications on his phone as a cameraperson says, “We’re so excited to talk to you about the Obama Presidential Center today.” He responds with a brief “Got it,” but doesn’t look up, instead adding: “Hold on one second. I can’t believe I’m still dealing with this.”
Obama’s new video sparks comeback theories
He then delivers the line that really got people talking: “I’ve got some unfinished business,” before getting up and looking outside.
That was apparently enough to ignite full-blown comeback theories online. Despite the speculation, it’s important to note that these theories are based purely on the interpretation of the video. The clip has now racked up more than 1.5 million views, with social media users jumping to conclusions, including the idea that Obama could return for a third term.
According to Tyla, one user on X wrote: “Barack Obama, don’t you wanna save the USA and be the president again?” Another added: “My heart just leapt for joy. Please tell me he’s coming back. Kamala and Barack??? Could it be??”
“We need him!”
Others leaned into the moment with a bit more humour, with one person joking: “Alexa, play ‘My President’ by Young Jeezy,” while another commented: “President Obama still looking good. Hope they find some way to allow two-term presidents to run for a third term.” A fifth simply declared: “He will be the one with a third and fourth term! We need him!”
For context, Obama served as the 44th President of the United States from January 20, 2009, to January 20, 2017, completing the maximum two terms allowed. As mandated by law, former presidents cannot serve a third term. Looking ahead, the next US presidential election is scheduled for November 7, 2028, when the country will elect its 61st president. While it’s far too early to know who will be running, one thing is clear: Obama won’t be among them. Speculation about a third term for Obama is unfounded, as a third term simply isn’t possible.
The internet may be ready for a sequel, but reality isn’t.
