Pam Bondi was fired as the United States Attorney General. Just hours after getting the boot, the 60-year-old broke the silence with a major claim.
On April 2, President Donald Trump announced that Pam Bondi was stepping down as U.S Attorney General. However, in reality, she was fire. For now, Bondi has been replaced by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. He will serve as acting attorney general, the president said.
Trump wrote on Truth Social that Bondi would be “transitioning to a much-needed and important new job in the private sector,” praising her for her work in his administration. However, he offered no specific reason for why she would be leaving.
“Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year. Pam did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900,” Trump wrote.
He continued: “We love Pam, and she will be transitioning to a much-needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced at a date in the near future, and our Deputy Attorney General, and a very talented and respected Legal Mind, Todd Blanche, will step in to serve as Acting Attorney General.”
So why did Donald Trump fire Bondi? Well, he was unhappy with Bondi for several reasons, sources told CNN. He did not like how she handled the Jeffrey Epstein files and felt she had not gone after enough of his political opponents. She is the second Cabinet member to lose her job in recent weeks.
Pam Bondi fired as U.S Attorney General
Last month, Trump also removed Kristi Noem as head of the Department of Homeland Security. One source said the firing went smoothly, which made Trump less worried about removing others.
In the recent week, Trump reportedly even talked with his allies about possibly firing Bondi. He also spoke with her directly about it on Wednesday last week, sources told CNN. One source described the conversation as “tough.” During the talk, Trump reportedly suggested that Bondi would not stay in her position much longer and that he planned to replace her soon.
Meanwhile, Bondi was told she was being fired the evening before the news was made public. It happened shortly before Trump gave a primetime speech about the Iran conflict. A senior official told The Daily Mail that Bondi asked him to rethink his decision, but he did not change his mind.
It came after Trump and Bondi appeared together before the US Supreme Court, where a ruling blocked his plan to end birthright citizenship earlier that day.
There are also reports that they had a serious argument the week before, but it is not clear what it was about. Her removal comes after other recent changes, including the firing of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and speculation that National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard could also be fired over a social media mishap linked to the Trump administration’s actions in Iran.
Breaks silence with major claim
Shortly after she was fired, Pam Bondi broke her silence. Taking to social media, Bondi thanked Donald Trump for the opportunity to serve as Attorney General. Moreover, she claimed that Trump’s first year of his second presidential term was “the most consequential first year of the Department of Justice in American history.”
“Over the next month, I will be working tirelessly to transition the office of Attorney General to the amazing Todd Blanche before moving to an important private sector role I am thrilled about, and where I will continue fighting for President Trump and this Administration,” Pam Bondi wrote on X.
“Leading President Trump’s historic and highly successful efforts to make America safer and more secure has been the honor of a lifetime, and easily the most consequential first year of the Department of Justice in American history. Since February 2025, we have secured the lowest murder rate in 125 years, secured first-ever terrorism convictions against members of Antifa, shattered domestic and transnational gangs across the country, taken custody of more than 90 key cartel figures, and won 24 favorable rulings at the Supreme Court.”
Bondi concluded, “I remain eternally grateful for the trust that President Trump placed in me to Make America Safe Again.”
