Patrick Muldoon passed away on April 19, 2026, at the age of 57, following a heart attack.
He was widely recognized for his roles in Melrose Place, Days of Our Lives, and the sci-fi film Starship Troopers. In addition to acting, Muldoon was also a musician and the lead singer of the band The Sleeping Masses, which he formed with Neil Ives.
Shortly after news of his death was confirmed by his manager, fans began flooding his recent social media posts with tributes.
“RIP Patrick, it breaks my heart to see the news,” one person wrote. “The world has lost a remarkable man!”
Just two days before his passing, Muldoon had shared an Instagram post announcing his involvement in a new film titled Kockroach. Earlier, on April 10, he posted a video of himself playing guitar at a family gathering, joined by his partner Miriam Rothbart and others singing along.
Following his death, many returned to those posts to express their grief.
“Grew up watching you in Starship Troopers. R.I.P legend,” one user commented.
“My heart is shattered,” another wrote.
“You will be missed, thank you for your amazing talent!” a third added.
“The world has lost the most beautiful spark… life is going to be a lot less bright without you,” another fan shared.
“I was hoping it wasn’t true. He will be missed. Prayers for family and friends,” a fifth wrote.
Under the video of the family moment, one commenter added, “This is a beautiful and lasting memory for your family to carry.”
Among those paying tribute was celebrity astrologer David Lawrence Palmer, who wrote in a comment, “I will miss you so much brother, my heart skipped a beat, you will never be forgotten. The heart and soul you carry in heaven is so bright, thank you for sharing it with everyone and being your authentic self always.”
“I’m in disbelief. Thank you for being such amazing company, brotha. You will be greatly missed,” actor Ethan Trace posted.
“Actor Jack Getman, who worked with Muldoon on Little Dead Rotting Hood, also shared a tribute: “RIP Patrick Muldoon. I worked with him when I was 8 on Little Dead Rotting Hood — a great guy and always kept the energy light.””
“Love you pat. I will miss you so much,” Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards’ daughter Lola Sheen wrote.
Muldoon is survived by his partner Miriam Rothbart; his parents, Deanna and Patrick Muldoon Sr.; his sister and brother-in-law, Shana and Ahmet Zappa; and his niece and nephew.
In the days leading up to his death, Muldoon had expressed excitement about Kockroach, a film he was executive producing alongside Phil Kim and Patrick Hibler.
“So excited to be a part of this amazing project, KOCKROACH, directed by Matt Ross, starring Chris Hemsworth, Taron Egerton, Zazie Beetz, and Alec Baldwin,” he wrote.
The film is based on a 2007 novel by William Lashner (writing as Tyler Knox), a reimagining of The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka.
Muldoon’s final on-screen project was the indie crime film Dirty Hands, directed by Kevin Interdonato, set for U.S. release on April 24. The film reunited him with his former partner and Starship Troopers co-star Denise Richards.
Muldoon and Richards dated on and off in the late 1990s but remained close friends. In March 2025, she appeared in his music video for the song Gray Again, which was later featured on her reality show, Denise Richards & Her Wild Things.
During the episode, her daughter Sami Sheen commented on their dynamic: “He’s very flirty with her, I’m not gonna lie. I don’t want to get him in trouble, but I feel like he might still have feelings for my mom. Just an idea.”
Richards later asked her husband, Aaron Phypers, if he was bothered by her on-screen kiss with Muldoon.
“No, not in that setting,” he said, clarifying that he understood it was professional.
In a 2025 appearance on iHeartRadio’s MisSPELLING podcast, Muldoon clarified their relationship.
“We dated on and off in the ’90s, but since then, it’s been just friendship,” he said.
“The thing about Denise and me is everybody thinks we met on Starship Troopers, but we met in acting class when she was 19, and I was 21,” he added. “We both don’t come from entertainment families, and our families got to know each other over the years and kind of checked in with each other on navigating the crazy stuff that we all go through.”
He also shared that he had been in a relationship with Rothbart for two years at the time.
