Michael Jordan surprises his former high school teacher in hospice care who wanted to talk one last time

Michael Jordan went to the NBA straight out of high school, becoming one of, if not the, greatest of all time. Now, he is being praised by fans worldwide for his heartwarming gesture of reconnecting with his high school teacher, who is currently in hospice care and wanted to speak with him one last time.

Michael Jordan had an incredible NBA career. After attending Emsley A. Laney High School, where he grew four inches and developed into an incredible player on the court, he became a star in his senior year.

He was drafted by the Chicago Bulls, and the rest is history. Jordan won all six NBA Finals he appeared in and is considered by many to be the greatest basketball player of all time.

Today, Michael Jordan is 63 years old, meaning his teachers today are very old. However, the basketball legend has not forgotten his roots or the people who helped him in his teenage years.

One of his old high school teachers, named Ms. Etta, who is in hospice care, is one of them. Living at Loew Cape Fear Lifecare in his hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina, the staff at the hospice home had heard that Michael Jordan’s name had come up several times as she reflected on her favorite memories of past students at Lanye High School, the local news outlet WECT reported.

It was then that the staff members decided to reach out to Jordan, who gladly agreed to cheer up his old teacher. Meanwhile, she wished to speak to Michael one last time.

After various attempts to contact Jordan, Wendy, a LifeCare social worker, received a call from an unknown number. On the other line: the basketball star himself.

“Is this Ms. Etta?” the caller asked.

At the time, Wendy was at her house, but she got in her car and drove straight to Ms. Etta’s home.

“They laughed, reminisced, picked at each other, and shared a moment that brought tears to everyone in the room,” the staff at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare told WECT.

‘In a clip shared by the outlet, Ms. Etta is seen relaxing on a couch in her home while on a video call with Jordan. The basketball player, wearing a blue T-shirt, smiles widely on the call.

Speaking with WECT, her family said it was a memory Ms. Etta will remember forever.
