Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s son Maddox files to drop ‘Pitt’ surname

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s eldest son, Maddox, has reportedly taken another step away from his famous father following several of his siblings.

According to legal documents obtained by Us Weekly, 24-year-old Maddox Jolie-Pitt has filed paperwork requesting ‘Pitt’ to be legally removed from his surname.

If approved, his full name would become Maddox Chivan Jolie.

The reported filing comes after Maddox appeared to quietly signal the change earlier this year while working on his mother Angelina Jolie’s film Couture.

Rather than using Jolie-Pitt, he was credited simply as ‘Maddox Jolie’ while serving as an assistant director on the project.

Maddox not first sibling to drop ‘Pitt’

Maddox would not be the first of Jolie and Pitt’s six children to distance themselves from their fathers surname. Several of his siblings have already done the same following the former couple’s split.

Earlier this month, daughter Zahara was listed as Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt in her Spelman College commencement program, though she has previously introduced herself publicly as ‘Zahara Marley Jolie.’

Meanwhile, younger daughter Vivienne was reportedly credited as ‘Vivienne Jolie’ while helping produce the Broadway musical The Outsiders.

Their daughter Shiloh also made headlines after reportedly launching legal proceedings to remove ‘Pitt’ from her surname after turning 18 in 2024.

Jolie and Pitt married in 2014 before Jolie filed for divorce in 2016.

Although their marriage officially ended in 2019, legal disputes between the former couple have continued for years.

In a 2022 Jolie accused Pitt of abusive behavior toward her and their children on a private yet in 2016.
