An apparent message of protest against President Donald Trump has appeared on the National Mall days before the historic UFC gala set to take place on the White House lawn this Sunday, June 14.
UFC Freedom 250 was organized to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence (and so the formal birth of the United States). It also happens to fall on Donald Trump’s 80th birthday.
Yet days before the spectacle, aerial photos have revealed that the numbers ‘8647’ were etched into the otherwise well-tended lawn stretching from the U.S. Capitol building to the Lincoln Memorial.
As per reports, the markings only became public knowledge on Thursday, when the aforementioned images hit the web. They do not appear in pictures taken of the National Mall and uploaded to photo agency Getty Images on June 5, for example.
The sheer scale of the numbers has prompted no small amount of discussion online, and the act itself of someone etching them into the National Mall becomes all the more sinister when one considers what the numbers may signify.
The term ‘8647’ has been used in recent times by those who oppose Trump. The ’86’ part of the phrase reportedly comes from the restaurant business, where it is commonly used to communicate when an item on the menu is out of stock, or the chef is tired of making it.
A more ominous application can reportedly be found in the Mafia, where ’86’ is said to be code for assassinating an opponent.
The ’47’ part of ‘8647’, meanwhile, is a direct reference to Trump, him being the 47th President of the United States.
Readers may recall that former FBI Director James Comey was indicted for posting an image where the numbers ‘8647’ were spelled out in seashells. The general discourse appears to side with the idea that he was calling for Trump’s impeachment or removal from office, as opposed to his murder, but given the number of alleged assassination attempts against the president, Trump’s administration is taking any and all perceived threats extremely seriously.
As per CNN, the US Park Police are currently investigating the incident on the National Mall. A spokesperson for the Park Police confirmed that samples from the discolored grass had been taken for testing.
“Any threat against the President is taken very seriously by the Department, and our U.S. Park Police will investigate this incident and hold those responsible accountable,” the spokesperson said.
