While the opening of the Obama Presidential Center was meant to celebrate a historic achievement years in the making, it was Sasha Obama’s footwear that unexpectedly became one of the most talked-about details of the day.
The June 18 dedication ceremony in Chicago brought together the entire Obama family for a rare public appearance.
Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama were joined by daughters Malia and Sasha as they celebrated the launch of the $850 million Obama Presidential Center on the South Side of Chicago.
Although the event attracted world leaders, former presidents, and major political figures, social media quickly shifted its attention to the Obama sisters’ fashion choices — especially Sasha’s eye-catching sandals.
Sasha embraced a relaxed yet elegant aesthetic, wearing an off-the-shoulder white top paired with a matching flowing midi skirt.

The look was completed with a statement belt and a pair of highly coveted Miu Miu sandals adorned with metallic embellishments.
Those shoes immediately caught the attention of fans.
“Sasha’s shoes are INSANE. 😍,” one admirer wrote on Instagram.
Another user could not stop talking about them either, commenting, “Look at the shoes😂😂😂.”
The excitement surrounding Sasha Obama’s footwear was hardly surprising. The $1,320 Miu Miu Leather Sandals she wore had reportedly already sold out at major retailers, including Saks Fifth Avenue, Farfetch, Fwrd, and Miu Miu’s official website.

Following her appearance at the Obama Presidential Center opening, fashion fans quickly began searching for the coveted pair, further fueling demand for the hard-to-find designer shoes.
While Sasha’s footwear dominated much of the online conversation, her older sister Malia drew attention for a completely different reason.
Malia chose a bold fashion-forward ensemble consisting of a gray blazer worn without a top underneath and paired with a dark gray mini skirt. Her look sparked plenty of reactions online.
“I think one forgot her shirt!” one commenter joked.
Another person echoed the sentiment, writing, “Malia forgot to put on her shirt.”
Beyond the fashion discussion, many fans focused on how much the sisters resemble their famous parents.

“They look nothing like they’re Dad’s [sic]! 🤣🤣,” one Facebook user commented.
Another disagreed, writing, “Malia is her mother’s twin 🤩.”
Others saw the resemblance differently, with one Instagram user declaring, “M looks like dad, and S looks like mom ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.”
Many longtime followers of the Obama family were also struck by how much Sasha and Malia have grown since their White House years.
“Omg how they have grown into such beautiful young ladies!💕,” one fan wrote.
The Obama Presidential Center is designed to be much more than a traditional presidential library. Located in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood, the 19-acre campus combines history, education, community spaces, art, and interactive exhibits aimed at inspiring civic engagement.

Visitors can explore Barack Obama’s political journey, major moments from his presidency, and the social movements that helped shape the nation, while also enjoying public gardens, playgrounds, cultural installations, and community resources.
As Obama Foundation CEO Valerie Jarrett explained, the goal is for people to leave feeling connected to the country’s progress and believing they can help shape its future. Above all, she said, visitors should remember one thing: “they’re going to have fun.”
