Just days after sharing her dreams for the future with her online fans, a Brazilian influencer mysteriously dropped to her death from the 27th floor of a Dubai skyscraper, leaving behind unanswered questions – and a grieving mother determined to defend her daughter’s memory.
In one of her final Instagram posts, Kauana Bilhar introduced her more than 24,000 followers to her new British Shorthair kitten after revealing she had been “heartbroken” when she was previously scammed while trying to adopt the breed.
“Some dreams carry a story behind them….you, with all your love and care, transformed a sad memory into one of the greatest joys of my life,” the 26-year-old model wrote on June 25, thanking her partner, Barbara Abrantes, for helping bring the kitten into her life.
“He arrived some time ago, and every day by his side reminds me of you, your affection, and the beautiful way you take care of my dreams. He brought even more joy to my days, but what warms my heart the most is knowing that it was you who made all this possible.”
Alongside photos of the adorable kitten, Kauana shared images of two rings resting on a luxurious heart of red roses decorated with the letters “K” and “B” as she reportedly celebrated her engagement to Abrantes.
She added, “Thank you for believing in my dreams when I was already afraid to believe.”
Less than two weeks later, those dreams were cut short.
‘Superficial happiness’
According to Brazilian outlet G1, Kauana died on July 7 after falling from the balcony of her 27th-floor apartment in Dubai, where she had been living for the past two years.
Though it is currently unknown what caused the fatal fall, Brazilian outlet ND Mais reports that investigators are trying to determine if it was “an accident, suicide, homicide or femicide.”
While officials search for answers, social media quickly filled with speculation about what may have happened.
Some users pointed to Kauana’s relationship.
“Their relationship was toxic and full of fights; In my opinion, it was this girlfriend who ruined her,” one user wrote in the comment section of the influencer’s post.
“Love bombing followed by death,” another added.
Others focused on the image she portrayed on social media: “The ‘wonderland’ that many see on the outside sometimes hides silent battles within. Before envying someone’s life, remember: every story has chapters that social media never shows,” one wrote, while a second added, “It’s a and an empty spirit. Reflect on this.”
Another, meanwhile, suggested her facial enhancements signaled serious mental illness.
“That’s why the era – and the aesthetics – of plastic surgery, especially regarding the face, are so frightening. It’s a clear sign that the person is facing mental health problems. This type of plastic surgery is not about beauty; it’s a clear sign that the person suffers from a serious mental disorder,” the user said.
‘My daughter deserves respect’
Watching strangers speculate about her daughter’s death became another heartbreak for Darla Bilhar, who broke her silence in an emotional Instagram video days later.
Speaking in Portuguese, the grieving mother described herself as living through the “worst moment of my life.”
According to People, that translated the clip, Darla said she felt compelled to speak because Kauana could no longer defend herself against “the accusations, the mean comments, the stories being made up about her.”
“I have to watch my daughter’s memory being judged, exposed, disrespected by people who didn’t know her story,” said Darla, who traveled to the United Arab Emirates to take her daughter’s body back home. “It’s easy to be a judge when the pain belongs to someone else. It’s hard to imagine what our family is going through right now.”
“My daughter deserves respect. Those who really knew her know what kind of person she was, her dreams, her humanity.”
She also urged both the media and the public to show compassion while the investigation continues.
“To all those spreading rumors or giving opinions without knowing the facts, I ask just one thing – have empathy. Today it’s my daughter, tomorrow it could be someone you love.”
Darla ended her July 9 message with one final plea.
“No mother should have to bury a daughter, and no mother should have to fight to defend the honor of someone who’s already gone while grieving.”
The investigation into Kauana Bilhar’s death remains ongoing.
