Artist digitally altered Zendaya’s face to ‘mathematical perfection’ leaving people horrified and angry

Artist digitally alters Zendaya’s face to make it ‘mathematically perfect’ with people calling the result horrifying.

A viral video digitally reshaping Zendaya’s face to fit a so-called mathematically perfect standard has backfired spectacularly, with millions of viewers rejecting the edited result and rushing to defend the actress’s natural appearance.

The clip, which has racked up millions of views across TikTok and other platforms, shows an artist gradually editing Zendaya’s features using the golden ratio.

The artist slimmed her nose, reshaped and enlarged her eyes, lifted her brows and made a series of other changes to create a more symmetrical appearance.

The reception of the video was not positive

Rather than convincing people the edited version was an improvement, the video sparked a wave of pushback from fans who said the alterations had erased exactly what makes Zendaya beautiful and recognizable in the first place.

“I think her original face is way more beautiful,” one commenter wrote. “She is beautiful as she is and does not need to change a thing,” added another. A third put it simply: “Zendaya is already a goddess.”

The broader point many viewers made was that chasing mathematical perfection had produced something generic, a face that could belong to anyone, rather than one of the most distinctive and striking women in Hollywood.

A wider conversation about beauty standards

Several commenters also pointed out how applying the golden ratio to measure beauty favors white or Eurocentric facial features, effectively functioning as a tool for digital whitewashing.

“Anyone realize they’re whitewashing her?” one TikTok user wrote. “The golden ratio is a European white standard. Zendaya is much more attractive than this manipulation of her.”

Others raised concerns about the impact videos like this have on younger audiences. “This kind of content causes so much harm to young impressionable girls,” one person wrote.
