First lady Melania Trump has gone a full month without making an official public appearance, keeping a low profile as questions grow about her absence from the spotlight.
Melania was last seen publicly on July 19, when she joined President Donald Trump at the 2026 World Cup final. Since then, she has not accompanied the president to several high-profile events.
An analysis published by NBC News on August 17 found that Melania has appeared even less frequently during Trump’s current term than she did during his first presidency, according to VT.
The first lady’s absence comes as renewed attention has also been placed on Trump’s relationship with his executive assistant Natalie Harp.

Harp is known to have earned the nickname “The Printer” because she often follows Trump with a portable printer. Reports regarding the nature of their relationship have triggered speculation in recent months, particularly following details about personal notes Harp allegedly left for the president.
In their book Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump, authors Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan wrote that she had left personal letters for him.
One of the messages, according to the book, said, “You are all that matters to me.”
Other notes reportedly included, “I don’t ever want to let you down” and “I want to bring you joy.”
Trump, meanwhile, reportedly also said that Harp “will never leave” him.
Called their bond “unhealthy”
Harp’s brother, Preston Harp, has spoken publicly about the relationship, describing it as “unhealthy.”
In comments to the Daily Beast, he said, “While much of the media has focused on questioning whether her relationship is something scandalous, that is not where my mind goes personally,” according to VT.
“Maybe it is because I just can’t imagine something like that, but to me this is 100 percent an infatuation based on an unfortunate shared ideology of U.S. exceptionalism.”
Despite the speculation surrounding the White House, Melania’s office has reportedly declined to say what the first lady has been doing during her extended absence.
Senior adviser Marc Beckman, however, offered a brief explanation of her approach, saying the first lady “prioritizes results over appearances.”
Melania Trump to announce a partnership
Melania has continued to work on several policy initiatives during her time in office, including expanding children’s access to artificial intelligence, improving the foster care system, combating non-consensual intimate imagery and helping reunite children separated from their families during the Russia-Ukraine war.
Her most recent public remarks came on June 11, when she launched the Fostering the Future Accounts.
Despite her month away from the public eye, Melania is expected to return to the White House Rose Garden on August 20. She will appear alongside IndyCar and Fox Corp to announce a partnership connected to her initiative.
