Georgia police put out a public appeal to identify a man who picked up $30 someone dropped at Walmart and walked off without turning it in.
The Albany Police Department in Georgia posted a photo of a man they wanted help identifying. His alleged crime: finding $30 on the floor of a Walmart and keeping it.
Someone dropped the cash while shopping at the Walmart on N. Slappey Blvd and the man the police are now looking for customer spotted it, picked it up, and left without saying anything to staff.
The person who lost the money called the police, who posted a photo and a tip line number, asking the public for help:
“The Albany Police Department would like the public’s assistance with identifying the suspect in the photo. The incident occurred at 2586 N. Slappey Blvd. (Walmart). An individual dropped $30.00 on the ground while shopping. This individual picked up the money and did not turn it in to the employees.”
The internet was unimpressed with APD’s use of resources
A lot of people seem to be asking why the case needed police involvement at all. One commenter called it the most unintentionally hilarious example of Georgia law they’d ever seen.
“Not to be critical of the APD and how they use their resources but here I am.” another wrote. “I’ll cover the 30.00 leave the old guy alone,” someone even offered.
This ended up being unnecessary though, because the man returned the $30.
Police said the original shopper had wanted to press charges at first, then dropped it once they got their money back.
