Prince Harry said he needed “electric shock therapy” to erase a memory of Meghan Markle, after one curious search delivered a steamy eyeful that he desperately wanted to forget.
Six years after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made a dramatic exit from royal life and left Britain behind, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are now reportedly preparing to return to the U.K.
The couple are expected to move into a private residence outside London with Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, who have reportedly been enrolled in British schools ahead of the new academic year.
It is a striking reversal for Harry, who, citing security concerns over his wife and kids, said in May 2025 that he couldn’t “see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK.”
And while there have been signs of an improving relationship with King Charles, the return brings Harry considerably closer to another royal relationship that has proved far more difficult to repair.
His brother William.
The heir and the ‘Spare’
Harry and William once appeared almost inseparable in public, bonded by the extraordinary circumstances of their childhood and the devastating loss of their mother, Princess Diana.
But Harry has since painted a very different picture of their relationship behind palace walls, with years of tension eventually spilling into public view following his departure from royal life.
Harry – the spare to the heir – laid out many of those grievances in his explosive 2023 memoir, “Spare” – a title that cuts directly to one of the resentments with William, the heir apparent.
That dynamic resurfaced during one of the most explosive encounters Harry described in the book.
According to the Duke, a 2019 argument at Nottingham Cottage became heated after William allegedly called Meghan “difficult,” “rude” and “abrasive,” descriptions Harry believed were simply “parrot[ing]” stories circulating in the press.
Then, he wrote, it turned physical.
“He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out,” Harry wrote, per The Guardian.
But that extraordinary allegation was only one of several personal revelations that Harry put into print.
Harry’s cocaine confession
The prince also revisited his teenage years, including his experience with drugs.
In “Spare,” Harry admitted using cocaine at 17 after being offered the drug during a hunting weekend, explaining that he later used it again.
“It wasn’t very fun, and it didn’t make me feel especially happy as seemed to happen to others, but it did make me feel different, and that was my main objective. To feel. To be different,” he wrote,
Harry also wrote about using marijuana and experimenting with magic mushrooms, making “Spare” an unusually revealing account of a life normally hidden behind palace doors.
Yet among the family fights, drugs and royal grievances was a considerably more awkward confession involving the woman he would eventually marry.
And this revelation involved Google and his wife.
‘I didn’t need to see such things live’
Before becoming the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan spent seven seasons playing paralegal-turned-lawyer Rachel Zane on Suits, where Patrick J. Adams played her love interest, Mike Ross.
When Harry and Meghan started dating in 2016, curiosity apparently got the better of him and the duke made “the mistake of Googling and watching some of her love scenes online.”
“I’d witnessed her and a castmate mauling each other in some sort of office or conference room,” Harry admitted, according to Fox News. “I didn’t need to see such things live.”
Harry even joked that he would need “electric shock therapy” to remove the images from his mind.
Future king was once a fan of Meghan
There was another Suits surprise waiting for him when he eventually told William and Kate that Meghan was his girlfriend.
In “Spare,” Harry recalled he was caught completely off guard when William allegedly responded, “F*** off.”
“I was baffled, until Willy and Kate explained that they were regular – nay, religious – viewers of Suits,” Harry wrote, adding that the couple proceeded to “barrage” him with questions about his future wife.
“All this time I’d thought Willy and Kate might not welcome Meg into the family, but now I had to worry about them hounding her for an autograph,” he wrote.
