Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s move back to the UK has sparked a range of reactions. And one who has decided to give his take on the Sussexes’ U, S departure is President Donald Trump. After MAGA allies claimed the president was the reason they left, Trump has spoken out.
Prince Harry and President Donald Trump don’t have the best of relationships. While the Duke has mocked Trump as late as last year, the president threatened to deport Harry a few years back after it was rumored he lied on his Visa application.
The Heritage Foundation went on to explain why they had sued the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for access to Harry’s immigration records.
“Harry has publicly admitted to extensive illegal drug use. What do we submit this means? That Harry seems to have received special treatment: the [Department of Homeland Security] looked the other way if the prince answered truthfully, or it looked the other way if the prince lied on his visa application. Either action would be wrong,” it read.
Before the 2024 presidential election, Donald Trump warned that Prince Harry could face deportation if he had lied on his visa application.
Trump also made it clear that he would not “protect” Harry if he returned to the White House. The former president had previously criticized Harry’s decision to step down as a senior royal, viewing it as a betrayal of the late Queen Elizabeth.
Donald Trump’s feud with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
At the time, the then-not-yet-elected two-time president said, “I wouldn’t protect him. He betrayed the Queen. That’s unforgivable. He would be on his own if it was down to me,” adding that he believed the Royal Family was “too gracious” to Harry after “what he has done.”
Some weeks ago, The Heritage’s Freedom of Information Act lawsuits failed to uncover any information from either agency about the prince’s immigration status — even before the Duke and Duchess announced they would be returning to the UK, six years after stepping back from royal duties.
Still, now, former Heritage staffer Mike Howell, now president of the government accountability group Oversight Project and a party to the lawsuits, told the NY Post that Harry won’t be able to ‘slip away’ even though he would leave the U.S. The worst-case scenario is that the prince might not be able to return to the U.S. at all, as he wouldn’t be allowed to enter the country because of his visa application.
Donald Trump has commented on Harry and Meghan several times, including calling the Duchess “nasty.” However, luckily for the president, it will get quieter now that Harry and Meghan have left for the UK.
Breaks silence on Harry & Meghan’s UK return
The couple was said to have landed across the pond last week, and reports have stated they are living at Ellen DeGeneres’ house in the Cotswolds.
While Donald Trump is a big fan of the Royal Family, with Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles being his favorites, it’s safe to say he’s not fond of Prince Harry.
So what does he think about the Duke moving back to the UK? Trump has broken his silence. Speaking with reporters during a question-and-answer session after a press conference on Wednesday, Trump said, “I’m happy about it.”
“I was not a fan,” he continued. “I had a very good relationship with the queen, really good, I got to know her very well. A really good relationship with King Charles – I knew him as Prince Charles and King Charles. I’ve known him for a long time.”
Trump described Charles as a “great, great guy”, adding that he thought Harry and Meghan “treated the royal family with great disrespect.”
“I didn’t like it,” he continued. “If I were the royal family, I would not have taken them back.”
