Woman finds ‘brilliant’ way to enjoy a night out without being bothered by men

Getting unwanted attention at a club isn’t funny or flattering. For many women, what should be a fun night out can quickly become uncomfortable when strangers refuse to take no for an answer.

Now, one woman has found an unusual way to make men think twice before approaching her — and the internet is divided over whether her clever trick is hilarious, heartbreaking, or both.

At first glance, it looks like a bizarre club prank. But behind the laugh is a reality that struck a nerve with thousands of women online, and one woman’s unusual solution has sparked a much bigger conversation.

My Linh, an SFX makeup artist and content creator from Vietnam, was tired of unwanted attention from men while out at clubs. Instead of repeatedly explaining that she wasn’t interested, she decided to try something that would make people think twice before approaching her.

Her solution? Fake rotten teeth.

Linh created a temporary set of prosthetic teeth that transformed her otherwise perfectly normal smile into something dramatically crooked, oversized, and unsettling. Then she wore them during a night out and filmed the reaction.

The idea was simple: if men were approaching her because they found her attractive, perhaps making herself look completely different would finally get them to back off.

She later shared the footage online, joking about the unusual tactic. Her original video was captioned, “When the guy bothering you in the club finally leaves you alone.”

The bizarre strategy quickly caught people’s attention, but the comments soon revealed that many viewers saw something much more serious behind the joke.

One commenter wrote, “Female defense strategies are getting more and more creative,” according to Bored Panda.

Another said, “It’s awful that a person has to do something like that to try to keep men away because they don’t respect anyone, sorry diva, but at least you were creative.”

Others pointed out that women shouldn’t have to disguise themselves just to enjoy a night out.

“Women deserve to have fun in public without feeling watched or bothered,” one person remarked.

Another commenter added, “It’s so sad we have to buy these kinda stuff, just to protect ourselves.”

And that is what turned Linh’s strange makeup trick into a much bigger online discussion.

For some women, avoiding unwanted attention can mean changing where they stand, staying close to friends, pretending to be unavailable, or even wearing a fake wedding ring.

Some have joked about having a completely fictional boyfriend. Others say they deliberately make themselves look unapproachable or resort to awkward conversation topics when someone refuses to take the hint.

Linh’s fake teeth may be one of the strangest examples yet, but the reaction suggests the underlying issue is anything but funny.

Data from the Nighttime Foundation found that 74% of women explicitly worry about their general safety during a night out.

So while Linh’s transformation may have started as a clever joke, it has left many people asking an uncomfortable question: Why should anyone have to look frightening, pretend to be taken, or invent elaborate excuses just to be left alone?
