Sharon Stone famously suffered from a near-fatal stroke in 2001, undergoing a long and arduous recovery process.
Even now, there are aspects of her brush with death – and the subsequent healing journey – that play on her mind. The 68-year-old film star revealed recently that she kept a particularly eerie encounter from that time private for many years because it was so difficult for her to put into words.
As per Entertainment Weekly, Stone spoke out for an upcoming episode of the Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown podcast, claiming that she had experienced strange visions beginning a short time after she was discharged from the hospital in 2001 following a stroke.
“When I was first home from the hospital, I couldn’t sleep at night and I was sleeping in the day,” Stone reportedly told Mayim Bialik.
“When I was laying on the couch, sleeping and awake, these orbs sort of presented themselves to me. These five orbs presented themselves to me and they sort of talked to me, but in a digital language.”
Stone divulged how these “orbs” gave her an unsettling look into the future of her personal life, going so far as to warn her over a custody battle she would eventually fight (and lose) regarding her eldest son, Roan.
Roan, at the time a one-year-old, had been adopted by Stone and her then-husband Phil Bronstein in 2000.
“I just kept saying to them, ‘I don’t know if I’m supposed to stay here or if I’m supposed to die,’” Stone recalled.
“And they said, ‘You’re supposed to stay.’ And I said, ‘I can only stay if two of you will stay with my son. Because I don’t want him to be alone, and I think he’s gonna get taken from me.’”
And so it proved to be. After Stone and Bronstein’s divorce in 2004, Stone lost primary custody of Roan – something she claims was influenced by Hollywood prejudice against the provocative nature of some of her most high-profile film roles, including Basic Instinct.
“Sure enough, he was taken from me,” Stone added on the Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown podcast. “And I said, ‘We have to have an agreement. The two of you will stay with him and protect him.’ And they agreed. And they said, ‘But your destiny requires that we stay with you.’”
Recalling her the surreal experience of communicating with the unexplained, glowing “orbs”, Stone emphasized that the encounter didn’t leave her frightened.
“I was curious,” she explained, “but very much at peace.”
