Texas star Colin Simmons mimed peeing on the field after a sack and is now facing the consequences of it and has apologized not once, but twice.
Colin Simmons had a monster day against Tennessee. Five sacks, and Texas won 20-17, but that’s not what everyone is talking about.
What everyone is talking about, instead, is the second quarter. Simmons took down Tennessee quarterback Faizon Brandon for a 16-yard loss and proceeded to pretend he was peeing on the field.
The ref announced the penalty as “simulating using the restroom.” It was unsportsmanlike conduct, 15 yards, and it handed Tennessee a free first down.
The apologies that divided people
To make matters worse, Donald Trump was at Neyland Stadium, seated next to Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn. This made the act look even worse for many, with ABC’s Kirk Herbstreit calling it an “absolutely idiotic move,” Chris Fowler referring to it as “vulgar.”
Simmons did end up apologizing for his actions already after the game.
“I also do want to say I apologize for the celebration,” he told reporters. “I was definitely in that mode, feeling myself. But, you know, it happens. Charge it to the game.”
He also wrote an apology on X.
“All Glory To God. Thank you for listening to my prayers and forgive me for my actions.”
The X apology received mixed comments.
“God might forgive you but Longhorn Nation won’t. Texas is better than that and better than you. Thousands of women and children were watching that game. I’m embarrassed to be a Longhorn fan. If you need to show how long your dong is, you’ve got a problem.” one person wrote on X, while another defended Simmons: “Good grief, none of y’all raised boys? It’s a mistake. He learned. Move on.”
