For years, fans knew Christopher Cain as the little boy his famous father was determined to put first.
Today, he’s a grown man — and the latest photos of Dean Cain’s son have given fans a rare glimpse at just how much he has changed.
Dean Cain is a familiar face to millions of viewers. For years, the actor has been a fixture on our screens, from playing Superman to taking on hosting duties and appearing in a wide range of television and film projects.
But acting wasn’t actually his first career choice. Cain dreamed of becoming a professional football player, even playing college football before a knee injury brought those ambitions to an early end. That setback ultimately sent him down a very different path, one that would lead him to Hollywood.
Cain became a household name after landing the role of Superman and Clark Kent in the hit 1993 series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. The show ran for four seasons and turned him into a star, paving the way for numerous leading roles in the years that followed.
But while Cain has built a long career in front of the camera, he’s also earned plenty of attention for another role, one he has often described as far more important: being a father.
Dean didn’t simply raise Christopher while building a Hollywood career. At several points, he made major professional decisions specifically because he wanted to be there for his son.
And one of those decisions reportedly meant walking away from a television deal that could have made him one of the highest-paid actors on TV.
Dean’s own childhood shaped the father he became
Dean Cain knew from personal experience how important a father can be.
His mother, Sharon Thomas, married film director Christopher Cain in 1969, and Christopher later adopted Dean and his older brother, Roger. Dean eventually gave his own son the same name.
“My father adopted me when I was 4, and I know how important that was for my life,” Dean told Fox News.
He has also spoken about just how deeply his adoptive father influenced him.
“Nothing in my life has been as big a factor as having my father there to raise me,” Dean said.
When Dean became a father himself, that experience clearly stayed with him.
His son, Christopher Dean Cain, was born on June 11, 2000, to Dean and Samantha Torres. The two parents initially shared custody, but in 2011 they agreed that Dean would take sole custody so Christopher could grow up in one household.
For Dean, being there for his son wasn’t something he was willing to compromise on.
He put fatherhood ahead of a huge career opportunity
By then, Dean had already become a familiar face to millions of television viewers.
He had played Superman and Clark Kent on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, which ran from 1993 to 1997, and his career continued long after the series ended.
But fatherhood changed the way he approached his work.
Dean has explained that he often chose projects based on whether they allowed him to remain close to Christopher. Long stretches away from home simply weren’t something he wanted to accept.
Then came one particularly tempting offer.
Years later, Dean revealed that he had turned down a television contract that could have made him one of the highest-paid actors on television.
“It affected my career like I can’t even explain. I turned down being one of, if not the highest-paid actor on television, for a show that ended up going six years,” he said.
The reason?
Dean was in the middle of a custody dispute and didn’t believe he could take the job without being away from his son.
“The contract was very attractive. But I was in the middle of a custody dispute, so I could either be a father or take that job,” he explained.
His decision came quickly.
“It took me a split second, not even a split second,” Dean said.
He later summed up the choice even more bluntly:
“I couldn’t leave for four months. Who is going to raise my son? No, it’s not going to happen.”
Dean acknowledged that turning down major projects affected his career, but he has also made clear that he doesn’t regret putting Christopher first.
“I would never change what I’ve done in terms of being a father vs. a career,” he said.

As Christopher grew older, Dean continued to describe their relationship in remarkably affectionate terms.
“He’s my favorite person on the whole planet,” he once said.
In 2018, when Christopher was 17½, Dean appeared on Today with Hoda Kotb and spoke about the difficulty of watching his son approach adulthood.
Dean joked that if Christopher moved away, he would simply go with him.
Then came the more serious realization: eventually, he would have to let his son go.
“I’ll let them go… I don’t know…” Dean said.
At the time, he also described himself as being “madly in love with him” and called their relationship “the greatest thing in the world.”
And over the years, Dean’s social media posts have shown that their bond didn’t disappear when Christopher became an adult.
Now Christopher looks completely different
Fast-forward to today, and Christopher is no longer the little boy fans may remember seeing beside his father.
Recent photos show just how much Christopher has changed over the years. Now all grown up, he sports a reddish-brown beard and mustache — a striking contrast to the young boy who once appeared alongside his famous father.
One particularly personal photo came after Dean underwent hernia repair surgery.
Dean shared a selfie from his hospital bed, giving the camera a shaka sign while Christopher stood beside him.
“Hernia repair surgery complete!” Dean wrote, thanking the medical team before adding a simple but telling line:
“With my son right by my side!”
The image offered a glimpse of the relationship Dean had spent so many years protecting.
And it wasn’t the only recent photo of father and son.
In January 2023, Dean shared a selfie with Christopher and called him the “Best part of my day every day,” adding the hashtag #myFavoriteHuman.
A month later, he posted a photo of Christopher at a High Point University basketball game with university president Nido Qubein.
Then came another proud milestone.
Christopher graduated from High Point University in 2023, and Dean marked the occasion with a photo from the ceremony.
“The Graduate!!! #ProudDad,” he wrote.
Father and son have kept making memories
Their appearances together continued after college.
In April 2025, Dean posted a photo of himself and Christopher standing side by side, each holding a certificate bearing his first name.
“Like father, like son! Tesla,” Dean captioned the post.
Then came a particularly nostalgic moment.
Dean once again put on the Superman suit nearly 30 years after Lois & Clark ended — and Christopher was there to help him with the cape.
“Almost 30 years since the last time I put this on! My son helped me with the cape,” Dean wrote.
The photo was a reminder of just how much time had passed.
The little boy Dean once arranged his entire career around is now a grown man standing beside him.
And judging from Dean’s posts, that may be exactly where his father wants him.
What Christopher is doing today
Christopher describes himself as a High Point University alumnus, and his social media presence suggests he has been exploring a path of his own.
His Instagram profile links to an Apple Music artist page under the name Christopher Songz.
The page lists releases including the albums Aer Bourne and Spirit Borne, along with a number of singles released during 2025 and 2026.
Meanwhile, Dean has continued building his own career in entertainment and media.
Proud American Studios lists him as the host of The Homeland, alongside his work as an actor and producer.
In September 2026, he was also selected to host the Small Business Administration’s Million Dollar Pitch Competition in Washington, D.C., an event featuring entrepreneurs competing for a combined $1 million in growth capital.
Dean has also spoken publicly about his work with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, describing himself as an honorary ICE agent who has completed much of the required training.
But whatever new chapters Dean takes on professionally, his relationship with Christopher remains one of the clearest constants in his life.
From the little boy he once refused to leave behind for a lucrative acting job to the bearded, grown man now standing beside him, Christopher has been at the center of some of Dean Cain’s biggest decisions.
And after all those years, one thing doesn’t appear to have changed: Dean still calls his son his favorite human.
