Paris Hilton may not make headlines quite as often as she did a decade ago, but she clearly hasn’t lost her knack for getting people talking.
For Halloween 2026, the socialite and her family transformed into characters from Beauty and the Beast — but instead of praise, the photos quickly sparked criticism online.
Halloween is here, and people everywhere are getting into the spirit by transforming themselves into their favorite characters, celebrities and movie icons.
From elaborate family costumes to simple throwback looks, the holiday is always a chance to have a little fun and let creativity take over.
But this year, one celebrity family’s Halloween photos are getting attention for a very different reason.
On October 27, Paris Hilton and her family stepped into the world of Beauty and the Beast, sharing a series of glamorous photos on social media. The hotel heiress dressed as Belle in a custom yellow gown, while her husband Carter Reum portrayed the Beast. Their son Phoenix appeared as Lumière, and their daughter London dressed as Chip.
“My life is a fairytale, and the magic never ends,” Hilton wrote alongside the photos.
But the fairytale quickly took an unexpected turn.
Some social media users questioned why Hilton had chosen to play Belle herself while her young daughter was given a supporting role.
One commenter accused the star of “Stealing spotlight from kids”, while another wrote, “Weird to make yourself the princess and the kid a prop, ngl.”
A third person felt the children should have been the focus, writing, “Cute but the kids should have been the stars here.”
The criticism became even harsher in some comments.
“She’s selfish and vain AF,” one person wrote, while another simply said, “She gives me such an ick.”
Someone else suggested that London could end up “living in her mom’s shadow for her life.”
But plenty of people came to Hilton’s defense, arguing that there was nothing wrong with a mother having fun with Halloween and choosing a character she wanted to play.
“I am a mom, and I can guarantee you the girl asked to be Chip,” one person wrote. “My kid went as Elphaba last year and made me be her Glinda.”
Another parent agreed, saying, “My 3-year-old wanted to be Bearhead from Danny Go. They don’t always pick the main character.”
Others pointed out that children often choose their costumes based on their own interests, not necessarily which character is considered the star.
“There’s nothing wrong with a kid being dressed as a kid,” one commenter noted.
And Hilton certainly isn’t new to elaborate Halloween transformations. In previous years, she and her family have embraced other movie-inspired themes, including Toy Story and Peter Pan.
So while some critics saw the Beauty and the Beast photos as another example of Paris Hilton taking center stage, her supporters saw something much simpler: a mother having fun with her family and wearing the costume she wanted.
