Ida Pearl is somewhat of a celebrity in her local town so when it was time to mark her 102nd birthday her many friends and family were not going to let a pandemic stand in the way.
As she sat outside her house in North Pontiac, Maryland, where she has lived for the last 70 years a parade of decorated cars drove past to mark her big day.
Residents held signs and honked their horns to wish this special lady a very Happy Birthday.
When Ida, known to her friends and family as Pearl, was asked what she wanted for her birthday she said to “wave at the people as they go by.”
Pearl’s home is just a couple of miles from the farm where she was raised, she was educated in a one-room schoolhouse and was responsible for bringing together black and white churches in the 1960s.
As a member of her local church Fairhaven United Methodist Church and a loyal trustee of the Pleasant View Historical Association she is also known as “The Avon Lady,” working as a representative for over 60 years.
Pearl, who has also shaken hands with President Barack Obama, was thrilled to see so many people wave at her in her special birthday drive-by parade.
And her secret to a long and healthy life is to: “just keep living.”
“I’m so grateful to have lived to be 102, so happy, so unexpected,” she added.
Please share to wish this very special lady a Happy Birthday!
