Woman celebrates 105th birthday with 105-car parade led by fire trucks

Birthdays are a big celebration at the best of times but when it comes to a certain age there is no other way to mark the occasion.

For one North Carolina resident a big birthday celebration has become a tradition for the last 15 years.

Since her 90th birthday Holly Springs grandmother Martha Leach has enjoyed a parade of cars full of well-wishers to mark her big day.

Recently she marked her very impressive 105th birthday with an equally impressive convoy of 105 cars which showed up to wish her a Happy Birthday.

Martha’s grandson, Charles Whitaker, says she is overjoyed by her friends and loved ones’ efforts every year.

“She just has been around so long and is such a nice lady to everybody – didn’t meet no strangers,” Charles said, as per ABC News. “It’s just amazing for her life. The way she came through life working so hard. Now, she’s living the life of ease now.”

The parade was led by a number of firetrucks, a particular favorite of Martha’s after she was taken for a spin in one as a special treat for her 103rd birthday.

This year many dropped off cards and flowers and a local florist even donated 105 carnations to honor Martha’s big day.
