When Dede Carraway was going into labour, one thing was certain: her 12-year-old daughter had to be in the delivery room with her. Likewise, daughter Jacee certainly didn’t want to miss the big moment.
During birth however, the doctor asked a question neither mom nor daughter were ready for.
Now pictures of this unusual childbirth have been spreading online all over the world.
When 12-year-old Jacee first walked into the delivery room, she had a hard time seeing what was actually happening. The room was busy and crowded with doctors and midwives and the young girl became worried she might miss the moment her little brother would enter the world.
All of the sudden, the doctor handed her scrubs and told her to put them on and come forward. He then asked if she would like the honour of delivering her brother – a question she and her mother were not expecting.
Although surprised, Jacee thanked the doctor and joined approached her mom. She would remember the minutes that followed for the rest of her life.
“I actually delivered him, he let me actually push down and pull the baby out…. I was like, wow, like I’ve played fake doctor before, but this is the real thing, this is is the real deal. I was really nervous,” Jacee later said.
It wasn’t an easy birth – the anesthesia wasn’t working properly and mother Dede was in a lot of pain. Seeing the look on her daughter’s face however, made it all easier.
Finally, baby brother Cayson Carraway decided to come out, and he was a healthy little boy.
Jacee says she’s very grateful for being allowed to take part in helping deliver her baby brother. Strangers worldwide have praised her for her courage. The viral pictures however, have also sparked some anger. Some think that the 12-year-old girl was way too young to participate in such a thing, claiming she might be traumatized for life after seeing this.
But in a television interview, Jacee couldn’t sound happier about the incident.
“It was the best moment in my life,” she told Fox40.
Jacee’s dream was always to become a veterinarian when she would grow up, but now after delivering her little brother, she is reconsidering and is interested in becoming a midwife.
Thank goodness everything went alright! I think Jacee and her little brother will always have a special bond because of this.
