A California man charged with the murder of his 2-year-old son and 10-month-old daughter says he was “inspired by QAnon and Illuminati conspiracy theories,” according to court documents.
Matthew Taylor Coleman took his two young children from their Santa Barbara home to Rosarito, Mexico without his wife knowing and allegedly shot each of them in their chests with a spearfishing gun, as per The Associated Press.
According to court documents, the 40-year-old told FBI agents “he believed his children were going to grow into monsters so he had to kill them.”
His wife Abby had called the police after waking up to find her husband and children gone. He hadn’t told her where they were going and wasn’t responding to text messages.
Abby told police she didn’t believe the children were in danger and the couple had had no arguments before he left, as per WSB-TV News.
“Using a computer application, Coleman’s wife was able to determine that Coleman’s phone had been in Rosarito on Sunday afternoon,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
“Using the same phone-locating service…the FBI dispatched colleagues in San Diego to contact Coleman, who entered the United States in the Sprinter van without the children.”
Coleman was detained at the border checkpoint, where during an interview with an FBI agent “he explained that he was enlightened by QAnon and Illuminati conspiracy theories and was receiving visions and signs revealing that his wife, A.C., possessed serpent DNA and had passed it on to his children,” as per AP News citing the affidavit.
The children’s bodies were found by a farmworker at a ranch near a Baja California town Monday. The prosecutor said the girl had been stabbed 12 times and the boy was stabbed 17 times, as per ABC7 News.
Coleman, who founded the Lovewater Surf School in Santa Barbara and has a master’s degree in Spanish, was charged federally with the foreign murder of U.S. nationals, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
Coleman appeared in court on Wednesday where a federal judge ordered that he be detained. He is scheduled to appear in court again on Aug. 31.
Such a horrific case; my heart goes out to the mother of these two precious angels. May they rest in peace.
I hope justice is properly served and the family finds some way of getting through this horror. Please share.
