Dog who spent over 7 years in animal shelter finally adopted into his forever home

When Mica arrived at an Ohio animal shelter in 2014 staff had no idea that she’d be there for so long.

Mica was a pointer, german shorthaired/retriever, labrador mix who had been treated badly during her then three-year-life and so had some behavioural issues.

Nearly seven years later and sweet, timid Mica was still at the League for Animal Welfare in Batavia, Ohio, waiting for a forever home.

Staff at the center reached out to local media to help find a new home for Mica and they couldn’t believe the response.

Hundreds of people from across the U.S. including people in Idaho, California, Texas, Wisconsin, Florida and Hawaii reached out offering to adopt Mica.

Staff said because Mica had a traumatic start to life he has learned to be wary of humans he doesn’t know, so finding the perfect fit for his behavioral needs was extremely important.

“Our staff is going through the hundreds of inquiries about Mica, and we are hopeful we will find the right person for him very soon,” the League for Animal Welfare told ABC6 News at the end of April.

Staff decided that a far away adoption would prove too stressful for Mica so looked for a family that lived within a 2-hour radius of Cincinnati. Staff expressed their gratitude at all those who had offered to take Mica in.

“If you have reached out to us, hopefully you’ve heard back! If not, please know that we are GRATEFUL for all the incredible compassion, and have done our best to talk to all of you!”

Now, after careful consideration the lucky pup has found a home.

“Our boy has finally found his family,” the organization said on Facebook. “Mica had some behavioral challenges that made finding the right fit especially important. But now he’s found it.”

A picture of the lucky couple who was chosen to adopt Mica was also posted along with a picture of Mica’s empty cage, which had been decorated in celebration.
