Sad news this morning: beloved internet sensation ‘Grumpy Cat,’ the cat with an adorable permanent scowl, has passed away at age 7.
Grumpy Cat, whose real name is Tardar Sauce, lived in Arizona with her owner. She reportedly passed away from complications that arose from a urinary tract infection. The announcement was made on Twitter.

Grumpy Cat was an internet sensation for most of her life. She rose to fame 6 years ago when her owner, Tabatha, most a photo of her kitty on Reddit with the caption, “Meet grumpy cat.”
Since then, Grumpy Cat has become a meme, the backdrop for generally “grumpy” comments such as “I had fun once. It was awful.”
While it may seem like the sourpuss was only meant to have 15 minutes of fame, Grumpy Cat became a permanent fixture in the so-called memesphere for a lasting 6 years. There has even been official merchandise with her face on it!
Contrary to popular belief, Grumpy Cat wasn’t a grumpy kitty at all. In fact, according to her owners, she was cute and cuddly and loving. She was a cat who loved to be pet and held. Her sour face was the result of feline dwarfism.
