This animal lover rescues a stranded koala from drowning in a flood

There are few things I love more than when people step up to help animals in need. Animals give us so much love in, and that’s why I’m so happy when I see a story like this: a confused koala being rescued by a kind passerby.

Everyone can use a little help sometimes – even cute koalas.

Russell Latter is a plumber in South Australia. This particular day it rained an awful lot, causing severe flooding in several parts of the region.

On his way home after completing a job, he suddenly came across a very wet koala, confusedly looking around at the water rising around him.

He went to the left, he went to the right. He did not know what to do. The water was rising on both sides of the road so he was unable to go anywhere. The only way out was to walk along the road, but the koala could not figure that out.

Luckily for the wet koala, however, Russell immediately decided to help.

“”I was walking behind him, urging him forward. When we got out of the thick of it, he saw a post and climbed up for a moment, excited to be up,” Russell said.

The koala climbed down again and Russell continued to guide him to safety. The koala then decided to climb up a tree.

“There were plenty of leaves, so he’ll be alright for a while,” Russel added. “By now, the waters have receded for the most part, but he might stay a few days. He just needed to give himself a good shake, to get the water off.”

“I’m glad I was able to help,” said Russel. “It felt good to get him out of harm’s way. Everybody is happy to help a koala.”
