While Wesley isn’t quite a teenager in dog years, his smile wouldn’t be out of place in any middle school or high school. That’s right, Wesley the dog has braces.
But Wesley’s owner wasn’t trying to improve her dog’s smile. The pup needed his teeth aligned because when his adult teeth came out, he couldn’t close his mouth.
His owner, Molly Moore, explains: “Once his adult teeth started coming out, we noticed they were coming in wrong and he was unable to close his mouth fully. He wasn’t playing with his toys and he was losing weight. It was very worrying for me, and we needed to do something for him to be pain free and live a happy puppy life.”
Lucky for Wesley, Molly’s dad happens to be an animal dentist. And since Molly’s a veterinary assistant, she helped her dad with the procedure.
With Wesley under anesthesia, Molly’s dad, Dr. Jim Moore, affixed the braces to Wesley’s top teeth. And from the look in his “after” photo, the procedure doesn’t seem to have bothered him at all.
And the good news is dog’s mouths are so pliable, Wesley’s teeth will be straight in a few weeks. So if he stays out of trouble and doesn’t chew gum or eat sticky candy, Wesley will have a perfect smile in no time!
Wesley’s teeth started to get crooked as his adult teeth came out.
His teeth were so crooked, he couldn’t close his mouth or chew his food properly. As a result, Wesley started losing weight.
Since his owner, Molly, is a veterinary assistant and his grandpa Jim (Molly’s dad) is an animal dentist, they decided to give him braces.
With Wesley under anesthesia, Dr. Jim put on the pup’s new braces.
Wesley looks happy with the results!
He’s taking a little time to get used to his new look.
But he’ll always remember that time he went to the orthodontist!
If you enjoyed Wesley’s story and are happy that he’ll grow up a good set of teeth and able to eat as well as any other dog, please share this story!
