Vet is shocked when she looks inside dog’s mouth, now she wants to warn others of the deadly discovery

Okay dog owners, hold your horses! Or should I say hold your dogs. There’s an unusual new bug infestation to watch out for — the attack of the ladybugs.

If you own a dog, you know it’s worrying when your pet stops eating and starts sleeping most of day.

This is exactly what happened to a dog named Bailey from Kansas. Like many dogs, he loved chasing insects.

But then one day, Bailey’s owner noticed that he stopped eating and was unusually tired.

Warning: some readers might find some of the images distressing.

Bailey’s owner took him to veterinarian Lindsey Mitchell, who wasn’t a stranger to the condition. As a matter of fact, on that same day, she had seen another pooch with the same problem, writes The Daily Mail.

Lindsay opened Bailey’s mouth and found over 30 ladybugs stuck to the roof of his mouth. It was frightening!

Apparently, these bugs cause a lot of pain and can kill the death if they’re not removed.

“If your pet is drooling or foaming at the mouth, look for these ladybugs. They cause ulcers on the tongue and mouth and have a very painful bite,” Lindsay told The Daily Mail. “I posted the photo not to freak people out, but to provide pet owners with an action to take in case they find one of their pets drooling excessively or with apparent foaming at the mouth.”

But these aren’t your ordinary ladybugs — they’re another species called Asian lady beetles.

Apparently, they aren’t difficult to remove if you spot them in your pet’s mouth. Simply pick them off one by one wearing plastic gloves. Just don’t squish them while you’re doing it or they might secrete a foul-smelling liquid on you.

“They aren’t like a tick, so there is no worry that a head or any part of the animal will be left behind to hurt the animal further,” Lindsay says.
